The Senior Environmental Systems Supervisor is responsible for the leadership, oversight, and strategic management of building environmental systems, with a primary focus on humidity control, indoor air quality (IAQ), and filtration systems. This role ensures that all environmental control measures comply with regulatory and industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, OSHA, ISO), and that systems are optimized for energy efficiency, occupant health, and critical operational performance. The supervisor will manage a team of technicians, oversee vendor contracts, and lead improvement initiatives across multiple facilities or high-priority zones.
Lead and manage the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of HVAC environmental systems, focusing on humidity, air filtration, and IAQ metrics.
Develop and implement long-term strategies for IAQ performance, predictive maintenance, and system upgrades.
Supervise and mentor environmental control technicians and junior supervisors, ensuring technical excellence and adherence to SOPs.
Oversee performance monitoring and root-cause analysis of humidity or IAQ deviations using sensor data, BAS/BMS analytics, and on-site diagnostics.
Direct the inspection, calibration, and replacement schedules for filtration units (HEPA/MERV), humidifiers, UV disinfection units, and related systems.
Serve as a key liaison with regulatory bodies and internal compliance teams to ensure adherence to ASHRAE, OSHA, ISO 14644, and other applicable standards.
Collaborate with engineering and capital project teams to guide the design and implementation of new air handling and filtration solutions.
Evaluate energy usage and recommend enhancements for energy-efficient IAQ control.
Maintain documentation and generate reports on air quality trends, system health, and compliance activities.
Manage vendor contracts for service, maintenance, and equipment upgrades related to environmental systems.
Strategic IAQ and Humidity Control Management
Develop and implement operational strategies to maintain optimal humidity levels and air quality across diverse facility environments (e.g., healthcare, laboratories, data centers).
Advanced Filtration System Oversight
Manage the performance and compliance of HEPA, MERV-rated, and activated carbon filters, as well as UVGI and ionization technologies.
Leadership and Team Management
Direct and develop staff responsible for HVAC and IAQ systems, including training, auditing, and performance evaluations.
Regulatory Compliance and Risk Mitigation
Ensure all systems meet or exceed relevant standards (e.g., ASHRAE 62.1/62.2, ISO 16890, OSHA IAQ guidelines) and actively prepare for audits or inspections.
System Integration and Data-Driven Optimization
Utilize building automation systems (BAS) and IAQ monitoring platforms for real-time analysis, fault detection, and continuous performance improvement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Interface with health & safety, energy management, IT, and engineering teams to align environmental controls with broader facility goals.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, HVAC/R, or related technical field (Master’s preferred).
7+ years of progressive experience in HVAC, IAQ, or environmental systems management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or senior technical role.
Strong working knowledge of ASHRAE standards (especially 62.1, 55, 170), OSHA IAQ standards, and industry best practices.
Proficiency with building automation systems (e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider Electric).
Familiarity with air quality monitoring tools, such as particle counters, VOC sensors, and CO₂ analyzers.
Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
Certifications such as LEED AP, Certified Indoor Environmentalist (CIE), or OSHA 30 are highly desirable.
