Environmental Systems Supervisor – Humidity, Air Quality, Filtration

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Environmental Systems Supervisor (Mid-Level) is responsible for the supervision, coordination, and optimization of environmental control systems related to humidity, air quality, and filtration across critical facility spaces. This role ensures compliance with health and environmental standards, supports performance tuning of HVAC and air quality control systems, and plays a key role in managing preventive maintenance and minor upgrades for environmental systems. The position requires both technical oversight and hands-on involvement in operations and system improvement initiatives.

✅ Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily operations of environmental control systems focusing on indoor air quality (IAQ), humidity control, and air filtration performance.

  • Monitor system data and analytics to ensure proper function of air handling units (AHUs), humidifiers, dehumidifiers, UV-C systems, and HEPA filters.

  • Oversee maintenance schedules for filtration components, sensors, and humidification systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinate with Building Automation System (BAS) teams to calibrate and fine-tune environmental control settings.

  • Respond to and resolve occupant complaints or system alerts related to air quality, humidity, or filtration performance.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, filter replacement logs, and system performance data.

  • Assist in indoor air quality audits, including VOC, COâ‚‚, and particulate testing, and propose mitigation strategies.

  • Manage small-scale environmental system upgrade projects and retrofits in collaboration with vendors and contractors.

  • Ensure compliance with ASHRAE standards, OSHA guidelines, and facility-specific air quality protocols.

  • Train and mentor junior technicians or new team members in environmental system operations and procedures.

🎯 Key Focus Areas:

  1. Humidity and Moisture Control

    • Ensure effective operation of humidification/dehumidification systems in sensitive building zones such as cleanrooms, laboratories, and data centers.

  2. Indoor Air Quality Management

    • Monitor and report air quality parameters; lead corrective actions for non-compliance with IAQ standards.

  3. Filtration and Contaminant Control

    • Oversee filtration system performance (HEPA, MERV-rated filters), UVGI equipment, and ensure timely maintenance or upgrades.

  4. System Integration and Optimization

    • Work closely with BAS teams to integrate environmental controls with HVAC systems for improved efficiency and occupant comfort.

  5. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Reduction

    • Ensure facility operations meet applicable air quality regulations and proactively manage potential environmental risks.

📘 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, HVAC Technology, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

  • 3–6 years of experience in HVAC/environmental system operations with a focus on IAQ, humidity, and filtration controls.

  • Strong knowledge of ASHRAE 62.1/62.2, IAQ metrics, HVAC system design, and performance monitoring tools.

  • Experience working with BAS/BMS platforms (e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell).

  • Ability to interpret technical documents, schematics, and IAQ testing reports.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Certifications in HVAC maintenance, IAQ management, or OSHA compliance are a plus.
