Roles & Responsibilities

The Engineering Maintenance Manager – Mechanical Systems is responsible for managing all aspects of mechanical maintenance for plant equipment, utilities, and infrastructure. This role ensures the reliable and efficient operation of mechanical systems through planned maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and continuous improvement. The manager will lead a team of mechanical engineers and technicians and collaborate with cross-functional departments to support production, safety, and asset reliability objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintenance Strategy & Execution:

    • Develop, implement, and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance plans for all mechanical systems.

    • Ensure minimal downtime and optimal performance of rotating and static equipment.

  2. Team Leadership & Development:

    • Lead and supervise mechanical maintenance teams including engineers, supervisors, and technicians.

    • Provide training and mentorship to enhance skill levels and ensure safety compliance.

  3. Breakdown & Root Cause Analysis:

    • Oversee rapid response and root cause resolution of mechanical failures and performance issues.

    • Drive improvements based on failure analysis and performance data.

  4. Equipment Management:

    • Manage installation, repair, and upgrades of pumps, compressors, gearboxes, valves, piping, and HVAC systems.

    • Maintain documentation for mechanical drawings, manuals, and maintenance logs.

  5. Reliability & Asset Management:

    • Work closely with reliability engineers to increase asset life and efficiency.

    • Use data from CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to guide decision-making.

  6. Safety & Compliance:

    • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with safety, environmental, and operational standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO).

    • Conduct audits and risk assessments on mechanical systems and maintenance practices.

  7. Project Support:

    • Provide technical support for capital projects, shutdowns, retrofits, and new installations.

    • Liaise with vendors, OEMs, and contractors for service contracts and material sourcing.

  8. Budgeting & Cost Control:

    • Prepare maintenance budgets and control expenses while ensuring quality and reliability.

    • Monitor spares inventory and maintenance KPIs.

Required Skills & Competencies:

Technical Proficiency:

  • Strong understanding of mechanical equipment including pumps, gearboxes, bearings, piping systems, and HVAC.

  • Familiarity with CMMS, vibration analysis, thermography, and lubrication best practices.

Leadership & Problem Solving:

  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing maintenance teams.

  • Effective at identifying problems, troubleshooting systems, and implementing long-term solutions.

Planning & Execution:

  • Skilled in maintenance planning, work order scheduling, and resource management.

  • Strong project management and vendor coordination abilities.

Safety & Quality Mindset:

  • Commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement in all maintenance activities.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education:

    • B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (required)

    • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with strong experience may be considered

  • Certifications (Preferred):

    • CMRT (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician), Six Sigma, OSHA Safety Certification, TPM Training

  • Experience:

    • 8–12 years of mechanical maintenance experience in a plant or manufacturing environment

    • 3–5 years in a supervisory or managerial role

    • Experience in industries such as heavy manufacturing, oil & gas, chemicals, or food processing preferred
