We are looking for an experienced and technically advanced Senior Energy Systems Engineer – HVAC Optimization to lead the development and implementation of HVAC energy optimization strategies across large and complex building portfolios. This role is responsible for advanced diagnostics, data-driven analysis, project leadership, and direct collaboration with clients and cross-functional teams to drive energy performance improvements, operational efficiency, and sustainability goals.
Lead comprehensive HVAC energy audits and system performance assessments across diverse facility types.
Identify, quantify, and prioritize energy conservation measures (ECMs) with a focus on advanced HVAC controls, equipment optimization, and retro-commissioning.
Use BAS trend data, utility bills, and real-time metering to uncover inefficiencies and opportunities for system tuning.
Develop calibrated energy models and ROI analyses to support project decisions and client proposals.
Design and refine control sequences for complex mechanical systems including central plants, VAV/AHU systems, chilled/hot water loops, and DOAS units.
Lead client engagements, present findings, and manage stakeholder expectations for high-impact projects.
Oversee project implementation support and provide commissioning and M&V (measurement and verification) services aligned with IPMVP protocols.
Mentor junior engineers and support technical development within the team.
Contribute to organizational knowledge through development of optimization standards, tools, and reporting frameworks.
Track emerging technologies, energy codes, and decarbonization initiatives to maintain competitive edge.
Advanced HVAC Optimization
Improve energy performance of air- and water-side systems using data-driven diagnostics and control strategy refinements.
Project Leadership & Client Management
Lead technical delivery for multiple projects and maintain strong client relationships.
System Integration & Analytics
Collaborate with BAS, commissioning, and IoT teams to implement integrated, high-efficiency solutions.
Energy Modeling & Business Case Development
Quantify savings potential and develop investment-grade energy reports with payback and IRR analysis.
Mentorship & Technical Excellence
Guide junior staff and standardize best practices in HVAC optimization, measurement, and reporting.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or related field.
7+ years of relevant experience in HVAC design, optimization, energy engineering, or building analytics.
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical codes, and ASHRAE standards.
Proficiency in energy modeling tools (e.g., EnergyPlus, eQUEST, TRACE 700) and energy calculation methods.
Deep understanding of BAS platforms and control sequences (Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Johnson Controls, etc.).
Experience leading M&V processes and presenting technical findings to executive stakeholders.
Excellent communication, project management, and analytical skills.
Ability to manage technical teams and drive performance across multiple projects.
