We are seeking a skilled and proactive Mid-Level Energy Systems Engineer – HVAC Optimization to support the identification, analysis, and implementation of energy efficiency strategies for HVAC systems in large commercial, institutional, or industrial facilities. This role focuses on optimizing building energy performance, reducing utility costs, and improving indoor comfort by leveraging data analytics, HVAC expertise, and smart building technologies.
Conduct HVAC system evaluations and identify energy conservation measures (ECMs) for air and water-side systems.
Analyze BAS (Building Automation System) data to identify trends, control issues, and operational inefficiencies.
Develop and model energy-saving opportunities using tools such as EnergyPlus, eQUEST, TRACE 700, or Excel-based calculators.
Collaborate with mechanical engineers, controls specialists, and facility operations staff to implement optimization strategies.
Assist in developing control sequences and recommend improvements to existing BAS programming.
Participate in field audits, site inspections, and commissioning support to verify system operation.
Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and client review.
Support measurement and verification (M&V) efforts to track savings and validate results using IPMVP protocols.
Stay informed on energy codes, decarbonization goals, incentive programs, and sustainability trends.
HVAC System Optimization
Focus on improving the performance of chillers, boilers, AHUs, VAVs, pumps, and heat exchangers.
Energy Data Analysis
Use trend logs, utility data, and submetering to identify energy-saving opportunities.
Controls & BAS Interaction
Collaborate with controls teams to refine setpoints, sequences, and control logic.
Energy Modeling & Savings Estimation
Simulate and quantify energy performance improvements using modeling and calculation tools.
Implementation Support & M&V
Assist in tracking project results and validating actual savings post-implementation.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Building Science, or related field.
3–6 years of experience in HVAC system design, energy engineering, or performance optimization.
Strong understanding of HVAC equipment, control strategies, and system operations.
Experience with BAS platforms and data interpretation (e.g., Tridium, Siemens, Johnson Controls).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Python, R, or energy modeling software is a plus.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to manage time across multiple projects and interface with field teams and clients.
