We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Energy Systems Engineer to support HVAC optimization and energy efficiency projects in commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities. This role involves assisting in the analysis, modeling, and performance assessment of HVAC systems with the goal of improving energy performance, indoor environmental quality, and operational reliability.
The position offers hands-on training and growth opportunities in HVAC systems engineering, building energy analysis, and sustainability.
Support energy audits and HVAC system assessments by collecting and analyzing performance data.
Assist in evaluating HVAC system designs and controls for energy savings opportunities.
Develop baseline models and compare performance using software tools (e.g., Excel, EnergyPlus, eQUEST, or HVAC simulation tools).
Help identify optimization strategies such as air-side economizers, variable speed drives, and control setpoint adjustments.
Review building automation system (BAS) data to identify trends, faults, and inefficiencies.
Assist in developing energy conservation measures (ECMs) and calculating estimated energy/cost savings.
Collaborate with senior engineers and facility staff on field data collection, measurement, and verification (M&V).
Prepare reports, presentations, and technical documentation for internal teams and clients.
Stay up to date with industry best practices, energy codes, and HVAC efficiency technologies.
HVAC System Performance Analysis
Learn to assess efficiency of chillers, air handling units, boilers, and VAV systems.
Energy Data Analysis & Benchmarking
Assist with building energy usage benchmarking and comparing to standards (e.g., ENERGY STAR, ASHRAE 90.1).
BAS Data Interpretation
Use trend data to identify operational inefficiencies and recommend low-cost improvements.
Support for Energy Conservation Projects
Contribute to development and implementation of ECMs focused on HVAC optimization.
Technical Reporting & Documentation
Generate high-quality documentation to communicate findings and recommendations.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, Building Science, or a related field.
Basic knowledge of HVAC system components and operation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Excel; familiarity with energy modeling or simulation tools is a plus.
Interest in energy efficiency, green building design, and building optimization.
Effective communication and technical writing skills.
Willingness to learn on-site measurement and energy data collection methods.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
