The Senior Ducting & Airflow Technician is a subject matter expert responsible for leading the assembly, testing, and optimization of HVAC ducting and airflow systems in automotive applications. This role oversees complex airflow validation programs, drives continuous improvement in testing methodologies, and provides technical leadership to the airflow team. The senior technician collaborates closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure HVAC system performance meets design and regulatory standards, while mentoring junior staff and maintaining lab and test equipment excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the assembly, installation, and validation of complex HVAC ducting and air distribution systems across test and production platforms.
Design and execute advanced airflow testing protocols including flow rate characterization, pressure loss analysis, leak testing, and system balancing.
Analyze airflow data to identify performance bottlenecks and collaborate with engineering to develop corrective design or process changes.
Troubleshoot and resolve advanced ducting and airflow system issues during testing and production validation.
Develop and refine airflow test standards, procedures, and best practices to improve test accuracy and efficiency.
Oversee calibration, maintenance, and upgrade of airflow test equipment and instrumentation.
Mentor and coach junior and mid-level technicians, fostering skills development and technical competence within the team.
Coordinate cross-functional communication to align airflow system performance objectives with broader product development goals.
Maintain detailed documentation of tests, findings, and corrective actions in compliance with company and industry standards.

Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, HVAC, or related discipline
Certifications in HVAC, airflow measurement, or quality systems are a plus
Experience:
6+ years of progressive experience in HVAC ducting, airflow testing, and validation within automotive or related industries
Demonstrated expertise in complex airflow system diagnostics and test management
Experience leading teams or projects in a lab or production environment
Technical Skills:
Expert knowledge of airflow dynamics, duct design, leakage testing, and instrumentation calibration
Proficient in airflow measurement tools and data analysis software
Skilled in developing and improving testing protocols and documentation
