We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Ducting Technician / Sheet Metal Worker to lead complex HVAC ductwork fabrication, installation, and modification projects within a power plant environment. This leadership role includes overseeing a team of technicians, ensuring work quality and safety, and collaborating with engineers and contractors to deliver compliant, efficient ventilation systems that support plant operations and environmental control.
Project Leadership & Coordination
Lead ducting installation and retrofit projects, including work planning, crew supervision, and quality assurance.
Coordinate duct layout, routing, and system integration with plant engineers, HVAC designers, and other trades.
Interpret mechanical drawings and specifications to ensure system alignment with design intent and airflow requirements.
Advanced Fabrication & Installation
Fabricate and install complex sheet metal duct systems (supply, return, exhaust, pressurization) using precision tools and SMACNA-compliant methods.
Supervise or execute field measurements, prefabrication, and modifications to ducting systems for tight plant spaces and thermal performance.
Ensure proper support, sealing, insulation, and damper installations to maximize durability and performance.
System Inspections & Quality Assurance
Conduct inspections for air leaks, vibration, pressure losses, and system misalignments.
Oversee testing and balancing coordination with TAB teams, ensuring optimal system function.
Approve completed work through internal QA/QC protocols and ensure documentation for maintenance and audits.
Safety & Compliance Oversight
Enforce plant safety policies including confined space, working at height, hot work, and PPE usage.
Ensure all work complies with ASHRAE, SMACNA, OSHA, and internal operational guidelines.
Lead safety briefings, risk assessments, and incident prevention efforts on all ducting jobs.
Team Development & Mentoring
Train and mentor junior and mid-level ducting technicians on advanced fabrication, layout reading, and installation methods.
Provide feedback and coaching to ensure continuous skill development and adherence to best practices.
Assist supervisors and engineering in evaluating team performance and resource planning.
Lead and execute large-scale HVAC duct projects in power plant settings
Ensure code-compliant, efficient, and safe duct system fabrication and installation
Conduct inspections and coordinate with TAB, HVAC, and controls teams
Enforce safety and quality standards
Mentor and develop the next generation of ducting technicians
Education:
Technical Diploma in HVAC, Sheet Metal Work, or Mechanical Trades
SMACNA training or certified sheet metal worker credential preferred
Certifications:
OSHA 30, confined space, and working at height certifications (preferred)
Welding or brazing certifications (where applicable) are a plus
Experience:
5+ years of experience in industrial HVAC ductwork fabrication and installation, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead technician role
Proven track record of managing projects in power plants, factories, or heavy mechanical facilities
Skills:
Mastery of duct fabrication tools, equipment, and installation methods
Excellent blueprint and schematic interpretation
Strong leadership, team coordination, and problem-solving abilities
Familiarity with airflow dynamics, system pressure concepts, and HVAC integration
High attention to detail and commitment to worksite safety
