We are seeking a skilled and dependable Mid-Level Ducting Technician / Sheet Metal Worker to perform HVAC duct fabrication, installation, modification, and maintenance for ventilation systems in a power plant environment. This position requires a strong working knowledge of sheet metal practices and HVAC layout interpretation, along with the ability to work independently or as part of a mechanical team.
Duct Fabrication & Assembly
Fabricate rectangular and round duct sections, fittings, dampers, and transitions from sheet metal using powered and manual tools.
Interpret duct fabrication shop drawings and prepare work materials accordingly.
Ensure proper sizing, alignment, and joint construction per SMACNA standards.
System Installation & Modifications
Install and secure ducting systems including main trunks, branch lines, and terminal units for HVAC and exhaust systems.
Modify or retrofit existing ductwork to support plant upgrades, equipment changes, or energy efficiency improvements.
Coordinate with HVAC technicians, insulation teams, and control system installers for integrated ductwork installations.
Quality Control & Inspections
Inspect duct runs for leaks, misalignment, or damage and perform necessary corrective work.
Apply sealants, gaskets, fire-rated mastic, or thermal insulation wraps as per project specifications.
Perform airflow and pressure checks to ensure proper system performance.
Safety & Compliance
Adhere to all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, and elevated work protocols.
Ensure all work complies with plant safety standards, SMACNA guidelines, and HVAC codes.
Maintain clean and hazard-free work areas and participate in toolbox talks and risk assessments.
Mentorship & Support
Provide guidance to junior technicians or apprentices and support training of new hires.
Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams on large-scale HVAC projects and shutdowns.
Execute HVAC duct fabrication and installation projects
Perform inspections and quality control of ducting systems
Retrofit and maintain existing duct networks in industrial settings
Interpret ductwork drawings and coordinate with cross-functional teams
Uphold safety and technical standards in all sheet metal work
Education:
Technical Diploma or Trade Certificate in Sheet Metal Work, HVAC, or Mechanical Systems
SMACNA training or related trade qualification is an advantage
Experience:
2–5 years of experience in HVAC duct installation and sheet metal fabrication, preferably in power plants or industrial facilities
Skills:
Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and duct layout schematics
Skilled with hand tools, power tools, shears, brakes, and forming equipment
Knowledge of duct system performance, airflow basics, and sealing techniques
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with minimal supervision
Solid understanding of safety procedures and construction best practices
