Job Title: Ducting Technician / Sheet Metal Worker – Power Plant HVAC Systems
Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Junior Ducting Technician / Sheet Metal Worker to assist in the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of HVAC ducting systems in a power plant environment. This entry-level role is designed for individuals with basic technical knowledge of sheet metal work who are eager to gain hands-on experience working on large-scale industrial ventilation and air distribution systems.
Key Responsibilities
Ductwork Fabrication & Assembly

Assist in cutting, bending, and shaping sheet metal to fabricate HVAC ducts, fittings, and components based on design drawings and specifications.

Operate hand tools and powered equipment such as shears, brakes, and roll formers under supervision.

Learn to assemble duct sections using spot welding, riveting, or mechanical fasteners.
Installation Support

Help with the installation of ducting systems including supply and return air ducts, exhaust systems, and air handling unit connections.

Support senior technicians in positioning and securing ducts using hangers, supports, and sealing materials.

Assist in measuring and marking installation locations in accordance with blueprints and layouts.
Maintenance & Repairs

Participate in routine inspections and cleaning of ductwork to ensure system integrity and airflow efficiency.

Help identify and repair damaged or corroded duct sections and insulation.

Apply sealants, gaskets, and thermal insulation materials as required.
Safety & Compliance

Follow safety protocols, including use of PPE and adherence to confined space, elevated work, and tool safety guidelines.

Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring safe handling of materials and tools.

Learn and apply relevant standards (SMACNA, ASHRAE) and plant procedures.
Learning & Development

Engage in on-the-job training to gain skills in duct fabrication, installation, reading technical drawings, and understanding HVAC airflow principles.

Support senior ducting technicians and supervisors in large-scale system assembly and problem-solving.

Qualifications and Skills
Education:

High School Diploma or Technical Certificate in HVAC, Sheet Metal Work, or Mechanical Trades

Enrollment in or completion of a trade apprenticeship program is a plus
Experience:

0–2 years of experience in ducting, HVAC, or general mechanical installation (internship or vocational training acceptable)
Skills:

Basic knowledge of sheet metal tools, materials, and techniques
