Director of Quality Assurance and Control (QA/QC – Fabrication)

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Quality Assurance and Control to lead the QA/QC function for our fabrication and manufacturing operations, ensuring that all components, assemblies, and final products meet stringent engineering, regulatory, and client standards. This role is critical in overseeing quality across welding, machining, assembly, pressure vessel fabrication, piping, structural components, and NDT operations, while embedding a culture of continuous improvement and compliance.


Key Focus Area:

  • Drive and enforce quality assurance and control processes across all fabrication activities, including material inspection, welding processes, dimensional checks, NDT, documentation, and final release, in alignment with industry codes such as ASME, AWS, ISO, and API.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the QA/QC strategy for fabrication shops and field fabrication projects across multiple sites.

  • Establish, implement, and continuously improve Quality Management Systems (QMS) in compliance with ISO 9001 and client specifications.

  • Supervise and develop a team of quality engineers, inspectors, welding inspectors (CSWIP/CWI), and NDT technicians.

  • Review and approve Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and Quality Control Plans (QCPs).

  • Ensure all fabrication activities meet industry standards including ASME Section VIII, IX, B31.3, AWS D1.1, API 650, and others.

  • Coordinate and oversee third-party inspections, audits, and client quality reviews.

  • Investigate non-conformances, lead root cause analysis, and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).

  • Develop and report quality KPIs including defect rates, NCRs, weld rejection rates, and inspection compliance.

  • Ensure proper documentation control and final data package (FDP) compilation for project handover.

  • Promote a quality culture across all fabrication and production teams.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Minimum 10–15 years of experience in QA/QC within fabrication, pressure vessels, structural steel, or industrial manufacturing, including 5+ years in a leadership role.

  • Strong understanding of welding processes, metallurgy, material traceability, and fabrication shop operations.

  • Hands-on experience with international standards and codes (ASME, AWS, API, ISO, NACE).


Key Skills:

  • Technical Quality Expertise – deep knowledge of fabrication QA/QC practices, welding inspection, and dimensional control.

  • Leadership & Team Development – ability to lead quality teams and develop internal talent.

  • Problem Solving & RCA – experience with root cause analysis (5-Why, Fishbone, etc.) and implementation of effective CAPA.

  • Documentation Control – skilled in quality documentation, inspection records, and final data book preparation.

  • Auditing & Compliance – experience with internal/external audits, vendor surveillance, and certification processes.

  • Stakeholder Management – able to manage client and third-party interactions professionally and technically.

  • Continuous Improvement – familiar with Lean, Six Sigma, and quality tools to enhance process efficiency.


Preferred Certifications:

  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – AWS / CSWIP 3.1/3.2

  • NDT Level II or III in PT, MT, UT, RT (preferred)

  • Lead Auditor ISO 9001

  • Six Sigma Green/Black Belt (a plus)


Working Conditions:

  • Office and shop floor presence required; may involve travel to fabrication yards or field sites.

  • Involves PPE usage and regular exposure to heavy industrial environments.

  • Requires coordination across multiple stakeholders including engineering, production, and client QA/QC reps.
