The Director of Operations – Fabrication and Structures is responsible for end-to-end operational leadership of structural component manufacturing and fabrication activities. This role ensures effective production planning, resource management, quality control, and continuous improvement across all structural fabrication units, including welding, machining, forming, and assembly. The director will lead cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality fabricated products on time and within budget, while aligning with safety, compliance, and strategic growth objectives.
Lead daily operations for the fabrication of structural components including metal frameworks, chassis, enclosures, and large assemblies
Manage workflows for processes such as welding, sheet metal forming, machining, cutting, and structural assembly
Monitor and optimize throughput, productivity, and resource utilization across fabrication work centers
Define and execute operational plans aligned with corporate goals and customer delivery expectations
Drive measurable improvements in output, on-time delivery, cost control, and scrap reduction
Develop and track KPIs (OEE, cycle time, defect rates, capacity utilization) and report to executive leadership
Implement Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 5S methodologies to streamline operations
Oversee deployment of new fabrication technologies and automation, including CNC systems, robotic welding, and laser cutting
Collaborate with Engineering and R&D teams on design-for-manufacturing (DFM) improvements
Ensure strict adherence to quality standards (ISO 9001, ASME, AWS, etc.) and internal quality assurance protocols
Maintain a safe work environment through effective EHS policies and training (OSHA/ISO 45001 compliance)
Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors, production managers, engineers, and technicians
Build a performance-driven culture based on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Manage staffing, training, and succession planning to ensure long-term capability growth
Structural fabrication and precision welding operations
Shop floor leadership, scheduling, and production control
Implementation of automation and smart manufacturing tools

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (Master’s degree preferred)
12+ years of experience in fabrication and structural manufacturing, with 5+ years in operational leadership
Deep expertise in metal structures, heavy fabrication, or complex weldment production
Proficient in ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) and digital manufacturing platforms
Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software and blueprint interpretation (GD&T)
Experience with capital project execution and layout planning for fabrication shops
Strong financial and cost analysis skills related to manufacturing operations
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent – if relevant to product lines
PMP or program management certification – a plus
On-site leadership with regular presence on the fabrication shop floor
May involve occasional travel to satellite plants, customer sites, or supplier facilities
Fast-paced environment with strict quality and delivery expectations
