We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead our mechanical engineering department. In this role, you will oversee the design, development, and execution of mechanical engineering projects, ensuring technical excellence, innovation, and alignment with business objectives. You will manage a team of engineers and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality mechanical systems and products on schedule and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership:
Lead and manage the mechanical engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Develop and implement engineering strategies, standards, and best practices to meet organizational goals.
Mentor and develop engineering talent, ensuring skill growth and career progression.
Project Management:
Oversee multiple mechanical engineering projects from concept through design, testing, and production.
Coordinate resources, budgets, and schedules to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
Collaborate with product management, manufacturing, and quality teams to align engineering efforts with customer requirements and market demands.
Design and Development:
Drive the development of innovative mechanical designs and solutions for products and systems.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality requirements.
Utilize advanced engineering tools (CAD, CAE, FEA) to optimize designs and performance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with R&D, operations, supply chain, and sales to ensure smooth product development and launch.
Facilitate effective communication between engineering and other departments to resolve technical challenges.
Represent the mechanical engineering function in executive and stakeholder meetings.
Continuous Improvement:
Promote the adoption of new technologies, methodologies, and processes to enhance engineering efficiency and product quality.
Lead root cause analysis and problem-solving initiatives related to mechanical engineering issues.
Qualifications and Skills:
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Advanced degrees are a plus.
Experience:
10+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, including leadership roles.
Proven success managing engineering teams and delivering complex mechanical projects.
Strong background in mechanical design, analysis, and manufacturing processes.
Skills:
Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
Proficiency with engineering software such as CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD), CAE, and simulation tools.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory compliance (ASME, ISO, API).
Preferred Certifications:
Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification a plus.
Certifications in Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing beneficial.
