We are seeking an experienced and innovative Director of Fabrication and Mechanical Engineering to lead the engineering and production teams responsible for the design, fabrication, and delivery of mechanical systems and structures. This role involves overseeing all mechanical design activities, fabrication processes, resource planning, and quality compliance to ensure projects are executed on time, within budget, and to technical specifications.
Lead and integrate the mechanical engineering and fabrication functions to deliver high-quality, technically compliant, and cost-effective fabricated components and assemblies, while ensuring alignment with design standards, client requirements, and industry codes (e.g., ASME, API, AWS, ISO).
Provide strategic and operational leadership for the mechanical engineering and fabrication departments.
Oversee the design, analysis, and optimization of mechanical systems, including pressure vessels, piping skids, rotating equipment support systems, and structural frames.
Direct all fabrication activities including cutting, welding, machining, assembly, and testing.
Ensure strict compliance with applicable engineering codes and fabrication standards (e.g., ASME Section VIII/IX, B31.3, API 650, AWS D1.1).
Manage engineering deliverables including 3D models, fabrication drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
Collaborate closely with QA/QC, project management, procurement, and operations teams to align schedules and priorities.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives across fabrication productivity, design standardization, and material optimization.
Develop and implement resource plans, fabrication workflows, and CAPEX strategies for equipment and facility upgrades.
Monitor team performance and develop internal talent through coaching and training.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
12–18 years of experience in mechanical design and industrial fabrication, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or director role.
Proven experience in delivering fabricated equipment for sectors such as oil & gas, power, water, mining, or heavy industrial manufacturing.
Strong knowledge of fabrication methods, manufacturing tolerances, and materials engineering.
Mechanical System Design – deep understanding of mechanical principles, stress analysis, and equipment layout.
Fabrication Leadership – strong command over shop floor operations, welding processes, and fabrication workflow planning.
Engineering Standards – hands-on familiarity with ASME, API, AWS, ISO, and related codes.
Project Execution – ability to manage engineering and fabrication deliverables across multiple concurrent projects.
Cross-functional Collaboration – excellent ability to bridge communication between engineering, production, quality, and supply chain.
Team Management – proven experience in building and leading multidisciplinary engineering and fabrication teams.
Problem Solving & Decision Making – strong analytical skills to resolve design-fabrication challenges and optimize outputs.
Professional Engineer (PE) License or Chartered Engineer (CEng)
Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) or Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE)
Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma Certification (a plus)
Project Management Professional (PMP) (optional but beneficial)
Primarily based in engineering office with frequent visits to fabrication shop and project sites.
Exposure to industrial environments requiring adherence to safety protocols and PPE usage.
May involve occasional travel to client sites or vendor workshops.
