We are seeking a results-driven and technically proficient Director – Structural and Sheet Metal Fabrication to lead and optimize our fabrication operations. This role is responsible for overseeing all structural and sheet metal fabrication processes, ensuring high-quality output, cost efficiency, and adherence to engineering specifications. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in metalworking, modern fabrication technologies, and a strong track record in operational leadership.
Lead operations for heavy structural steel and precision sheet metal fabrication.
Oversee cutting, bending, forming, punching, welding, riveting, and mechanical assembly processes.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen tools.
Reduce lead times, increase throughput, and optimize material usage and labor efficiency.
Ensure fabrication meets required quality, dimensional tolerances, and safety standards.
Maintain compliance with industry codes (e.g., AWS D1.1, ASME, ISO 9001) and customer specifications.
Oversee the implementation and operation of CNC machines, laser/plasma cutters, press brakes, and robotic welders.
Develop investment plans for capital equipment upgrades and automation.
Work closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Production Planning teams.
Support product design for manufacturability and lead fabrication readiness for new product introductions.
Manage a team of supervisors, welders, fabricators, machinists, and engineers.
Build a high-performing workforce with a focus on skill development, accountability, and safety culture.
Develop and execute operational strategies for structural and sheet metal fabrication across one or more facilities.
Monitor KPIs (OEE, scrap rate, first-pass yield, throughput) and take corrective actions as needed.
Drive cost reduction initiatives while maintaining or improving product quality.
Manage production schedules, labor planning, and capacity utilization.
Ensure proper maintenance and availability of fabrication equipment.
Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for quality or production issues.
Maintain a safe and compliant workplace in accordance with OSHA and environmental regulations.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, or equivalent technical field.
10–15+ years of experience in sheet metal and structural fabrication, with 5+ years in a leadership or director-level role.
Strong expertise in fabrication methods including laser cutting, CNC punching, press brake forming, MIG/TIG welding, and finishing.
Working knowledge of GD&T, welding codes, and mechanical drawings.
Proven success leading cross-functional teams and production improvement projects.
Master’s degree in Engineering or Business (MBA).
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certification.
Experience in industries such as aerospace, defense, construction equipment, or transportation.
Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems, MES, and CAD/CAM tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Amada, Trumpf systems).
Experience implementing automation, robotics, and smart manufacturing technologies.
