Roles & Responsibilities

The Director โ€“ Reliability Engineering (Valves and Rotating Equipment) is responsible for overseeing the performance, integrity, and availability of all critical mechanical assets, with a specific focus on valves, pumps, compressors, turbines, and other rotating or pressure-containing components. This leader drives predictive maintenance programs, asset health strategies, and system-wide reliability improvement across multiple plants or production sites.


Key Responsibilities:

๐Ÿ”ง Reliability Strategy Development:

  • Lead the enterprise-wide reliability engineering strategy for mechanical assets, including all valves and rotating equipment

  • Develop and implement Asset Reliability Programs (ARP) aligned with ISO 55000 and corporate objectives

  • Set policies for lifecycle optimization, uptime improvement, and performance benchmarking

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Asset Performance & Maintenance Optimization:

  • Champion the use of RCM (Reliability-Centered Maintenance) and FMEA to identify critical failure modes

  • Oversee the implementation of PdM (Predictive Maintenance) technologies like vibration analysis, oil analysis, ultrasonic, and thermography

  • Drive MTBF and OEE improvements across plants; lead corrective action plans for chronic failures

๐Ÿง  Subject Matter Expertise:

  • Provide technical leadership on all valve types (control, relief, isolation) and rotating machinery (centrifugal, reciprocating, axial, screw)

  • Guide valve selection, actuation systems, seal design, and maintenance practices

  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers on design improvements and failure prevention

๐Ÿงช Data Analytics & Condition Monitoring:

  • Oversee condition monitoring programs and the reliability database (PI, SAP PM, APM, etc.)

  • Analyze asset health data to identify degradation trends and optimization opportunities

  • Generate reliability dashboards, heat maps, and bad actor reports for continuous improvement

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Project Oversight & Turnaround Support:

  • Lead mechanical reliability planning for major shutdowns, overhauls, and turnarounds

  • Validate valve reconditioning strategies and rotating equipment refurbishment

  • Approve commissioning protocols and FATs for new or refurbished assets

๐Ÿ“˜ Governance, Standards & Compliance:

  • Establish and maintain mechanical reliability standards, SOPs, and inspection test plans (ITPs)

  • Ensure compliance with API 610/617/579/598, ASME BPVC, OEM specs, and safety regulations

  • Lead internal audits and RCA workshops for high-impact equipment failures

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Leadership, Training & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Manage a team of reliability engineers, inspectors, and maintenance analysts

  • Deliver training to operations and maintenance personnel on reliability principles and best practices

  • Work closely with operations, HSE, and procurement teams to support uptime goals and asset investments


Key Focus Areas:

  • โœ… Reliability improvement of valves, pumps, compressors, and other rotating machinery

  • โœ… Implementation of PdM/CBM tools and analytics-driven maintenance

  • โœ… Failure analysis, condition monitoring, and risk-based inspection (RBI)

  • โœ… Lifecycle asset management and optimization

  • โœ… Alignment with safety, process uptime, and cost-efficiency goals


Technical Skills & Tools:

  • Standards: API 610, 617, 579, 598, ISO 14224, ASME B31.3, ISO 10816, NACE MR0103

  • Tools: SAP PM, Maximo, Meridium APM, OSIsoft PI, PRUFTECHNIK, SKF, Emerson AMS

  • Techniques: FMEA, RCM, RCA, Weibull analysis, Fault Tree, Condition Monitoring

  • Analysis: Vibration diagnostics, lube oil analysis, acoustic emission, seal/gasket failure forensics

Work Environment & Travel:

  • Based in HQ or major site with 20โ€“30% travel to regional plants or vendor sites

  • Involvement during critical outages, equipment commissioning, or turnaround events

  • Regular interaction with executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
