Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking an accomplished Director – Powertrain Systems to lead the design, development, and integration of powertrain systems across multiple vehicle programs. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in ICE, hybrid, and/or electric powertrains, with a strong emphasis on system-level architecture, integration, performance optimization, and cross-functional leadership. This role is responsible for ensuring all powertrain systems meet performance, regulatory, cost, and quality targets from concept to production.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical and Strategic Leadership

  • Define and own powertrain system architectures (ICE, hybrid, EV) in alignment with product roadmaps.

  • Drive technical excellence in powertrain design: engines, motors, transmissions, drivetrains, inverters, batteries, and control systems.

  • Align performance, emissions, durability, efficiency, and packaging targets with broader vehicle-level goals.

2. Program Delivery and Execution

  • Lead cross-functional powertrain engineering teams through all phases of product development (Concept → SOP).

  • Ensure robust planning and execution of DVP&R, CAE validation, thermal management, and powertrain integration.

  • Manage design freeze, test validation gates, and issue resolution.

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Interface with electrical, controls, thermal, and vehicle systems teams to enable optimal system-level performance.

  • Work closely with manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams to ensure production-readiness and cost effectiveness.

4. Supplier and Partner Engagement

  • Lead technical discussions with suppliers, development partners, and testing facilities.

  • Approve component and system-level specifications and validation reports.

5. Leadership & Talent Development

  • Build and lead a high-performing team of powertrain engineers and technical specialists.

  • Promote a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and engineering discipline.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Electrical Engineering.

  • 12+ years of experience in powertrain development, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.

  • Demonstrated experience with ICE, hybrid, and/or EV powertrain systems.

  • Strong understanding of system integration, thermal management, NVH, emissions, and energy efficiency.

  • Proficient with CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, NX), CAE tools, simulation methodologies, and powertrain controls.

  • Deep familiarity with regulatory compliance (BS6, Euro 6, EPA, CARB, etc.).

Key Focus Areas:

  • End-to-End Powertrain System Design and Integration (ICE, Hybrid, EV)

  • Performance, Durability, NVH, Emissions & Energy Efficiency Optimization

  • Cross-Functional Engineering Collaboration (Thermal, Electrical, Vehicle Architecture)

  • Supplier Management and System Validation Planning (DVP&R)

  • Leadership in Platform Strategy, Modularization, and Innovation

Preferred Backgrounds:

  • Automotive OEMs or Tier 1 Powertrain Suppliers

  • Electric or Hybrid Vehicle Startups

  • Off-Highway or Commercial Vehicle Powertrain Development

  • Motorsport or High-Performance Powertrain R&D
