Director – Mechanical Systems Integration

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically astute Director – Mechanical Systems Integration to lead the end-to-end integration of mechanical subsystems across complex product platforms, such as vehicles, industrial systems, or large-scale machinery. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in systems engineering, mechanical interfaces, packaging, and cross-domain collaboration (mechanical, electrical, thermal, and structural). This role will ensure seamless integration of all mechanical systems into functional, manufacturable, and reliable final products.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Systems Integration Leadership

  • Lead the integration of multiple mechanical subsystems (e.g., chassis, powertrain, thermal, enclosures, suspension, hydraulics) into complete platforms.

  • Define interface control documents (ICDs), geometric packaging, and mechanical interface standards.

  • Ensure design compatibility across interacting subsystems and across vehicle or equipment variants.

2. Engineering Program Oversight

  • Drive the mechanical integration process across concept, design, validation, and production phases.

  • Own integration milestones and deliverables in the product development lifecycle (PDR, CDR, DV, PV, SOP).

  • Coordinate with systems engineering and vehicle/platform architecture teams.

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the mechanical integration liaison between teams (Electrical, Thermal, Controls, Manufacturing, and Quality).

  • Resolve spatial conflicts, weight imbalances, or interface challenges across systems and modules.

4. Design Reviews & Validation

  • Lead design and integration reviews with cross-functional teams.

  • Define and drive DVP&R plans focused on system-level mechanical validation.

  • Support CAE, FEA, and real-world testing efforts for integrated systems.

5. Strategic Direction & Leadership

  • Build and guide a high-performing team of mechanical integration engineers.

  • Contribute to strategic planning of product platforms, modular architectures, and future technologies.

  • Continuously improve integration tools, methods, and digital collaboration processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.

  • 12+ years of experience in mechanical product/system development, with 5+ years in a senior integration or leadership role.

  • Experience in platform or vehicle-level integration (automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, robotics, etc.).

  • Proficient in CAD tools (CATIA, NX, Creo), PLM systems, and GD&T.

  • Strong working knowledge of DFM, tolerance stack-up, packaging studies, and system-level testing.

  • Exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Mechanical Subsystem Integration (Chassis, Structures, Thermal, Powertrain)

  • Geometric Packaging, Interface Management, and ICD Ownership

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration (Electrical, Controls, Manufacturing)

  • Design Validation Planning and Execution

  • Leadership in Systems Thinking and Architecture-Level Engineering

  • Platform Standardization and Modular Design Strategy

Work Environment:

  • Collaborative R&D and product development setting.

  • Close interaction with design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing functions.

  • Occasional travel to suppliers, test facilities, and production plants.
