We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director – Mechanical Fabrication to lead our mechanical fabrication operations across all manufacturing facilities. This role is responsible for managing fabrication teams, driving operational efficiency, implementing advanced fabrication techniques, and ensuring adherence to the highest standards of quality and safety. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in metal fabrication, mechanical systems, and team development, with a proven ability to scale operations and integrate new technologies.
Lead daily operations of mechanical fabrication including welding, forming, machining, structural assembly, and finishing.
Ensure fabrication activities meet production schedules, quality requirements, and customer expectations.
Drive continuous improvement using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis.
Develop and enforce SOPs, fabrication standards, and inspection protocols to reduce rework and defects.
Oversee implementation of advanced fabrication technologies, including robotic welding, CNC machining, and automated material handling.
Evaluate and invest in new equipment and systems to enhance fabrication capabilities and throughput.
Work closely with Engineering, Production Planning, Quality, and Maintenance teams to ensure seamless operations and manufacturability of designs.
Participate in new product introduction (NPI) efforts to ensure fabrication readiness.
Lead and mentor supervisors, welders, fabricators, machinists, and support staff.
Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and technical excellence.
Develop and implement strategic plans for fabrication operations aligned with organizational goals.
Manage production targets, workforce allocation, capital budgets, and material usage efficiency.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, ASME, AWS).
Oversee preventive maintenance, equipment calibration, and facility readiness.
Analyze performance metrics (OEE, downtime, cycle time, cost per unit) and drive data-based improvements.
Support customer and internal audits by ensuring quality documentation and process traceability.
Stay updated on fabrication trends, materials, and manufacturing innovations.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
10–15+ years of experience in mechanical fabrication, including 5+ years in a senior management or director-level role.
Strong expertise in welding (TIG, MIG, robotic), metal forming, structural steel fabrication, and mechanical assembly.
Proficient in reading engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical documentation.
Skilled in lean tools, quality systems, and manufacturing process control.
Master’s degree in Engineering, Operations, or Business Administration.
Certifications in AWS, ASME, Six Sigma, or PMP.
Experience in industries such as aerospace, defense, construction equipment, or energy systems.
Familiarity with ERP, MES, CAD/CAM, and digital manufacturing platforms.
