We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director – HVAC and Utilities Engineering to lead the design, operation, maintenance, and optimization of HVAC and critical utility systems across our facilities. This position is responsible for ensuring system reliability, regulatory compliance, energy efficiency, and engineering excellence across all building and process utility infrastructure.
This role is critical in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, data centers, and hospitals—where high-performance and uninterrupted utility services are essential.
Develop and lead the strategic direction for HVAC and utility engineering across all facilities.
Provide technical oversight for the design, installation, and commissioning of utility systems in new and existing facilities.
Collaborate with senior leadership to align utility infrastructure with business needs, growth plans, and sustainability goals.
Oversee the operation and maintenance of HVAC, chilled water, steam, compressed air, vacuum, RO/DI water, gas distribution, and power backup systems.
Ensure continuous uptime of critical utilities supporting cleanrooms, laboratories, manufacturing suites, and sensitive equipment.
Drive root cause analysis and implement permanent solutions for system failures or underperformance.
Lead capital improvement projects including HVAC upgrades, utility plant expansions, energy recovery solutions, and system replacements.
Manage project timelines, budgets, resources, contractor selection, and risk mitigation.
Ensure adherence to design standards, commissioning protocols, and handover documentation.
Ensure all HVAC and utility systems are compliant with regulatory codes (e.g., ASHRAE, GMP, OSHA, NFPA, EPA, ISO).
Support internal and external audits, including those by FDA, EMA, or third-party quality bodies.
Maintain system drawings, SOPs, IQ/OQ documentation, and calibration records.
Implement energy conservation measures and decarbonization strategies aligned with ESG goals.
Optimize utility operations for cost, efficiency, and environmental impact.
Oversee utility metering, energy dashboards, and building automation systems for real-time monitoring and control.
Lead a multidisciplinary team of HVAC engineers, utility operators, controls specialists, and project managers.
Establish KPIs and performance metrics; foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and technical excellence.
Collaborate with manufacturing, quality assurance, EHS, maintenance, and IT teams to ensure integrated support.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
Professional Engineer (PE) license or relevant technical certification highly preferred (e.g., CEM, PMP, LEED AP).
Experience:
10+ years of experience in HVAC and utilities engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or director-level role.
Proven track record in managing complex utility systems in high-reliability environments such as pharmaceutical, biotech, semiconductor, or hospital facilities.
Technical Knowledge:
Deep understanding of HVAC, chillers, boilers, compressed air, clean steam, vacuum, water treatment, power backup, and building automation systems (BAS/BMS).
Experience with critical systems such as cleanrooms, data centers, or GMP production areas.
Familiarity with compliance and validation processes in regulated environments.
