The Director – Engineering Design and Maintenance (Mechanical Systems) is responsible for leading the design, development, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems across the organization. This role integrates engineering innovation with robust maintenance strategies to ensure high system reliability, safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency across all facilities or project sites.
Oversee the conceptual and detailed design of mechanical systems, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
Approve mechanical layouts, P&IDs, equipment selection, material specifications, and integration with other disciplines (electrical, civil, etc.).
Ensure design compatibility with lifecycle maintenance, safety, and operational efficiency.
Develop and implement maintenance philosophies (preventive, predictive, and condition-based).
Establish long-term maintenance strategies for mechanical equipment (pumps, HVAC, turbines, compressors, piping, etc.).
Ensure proper documentation, SOPs, and technical audits are in place.
Drive reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and root cause analysis (RCA) initiatives.
Introduce engineering controls to reduce downtime and increase asset life.
Monitor KPIs such as MTBF, MTTR, and equipment availability.
Champion the use of modern engineering tools (CAD/CAE, FEA, CFD) and maintenance technologies (CMMS, IIoT, digital twins).
Integrate sustainability, energy efficiency, and cost optimization into design and maintenance decisions.
Ensure adherence to local and international mechanical codes (ASME, API, ISO, etc.).
Lead quality reviews, design verifications, and risk assessments (FMEA, HAZOP).
Manage third-party inspections and regulatory submissions.
Support CAPEX projects with engineering input and lifecycle cost analysis.
Coordinate with procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations teams.
Manage budgets, timelines, and deliverables for design and maintenance projects.
Lead a multidisciplinary team of mechanical engineers, designers, and maintenance planners.
Promote continuous learning, technical mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
Foster a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and operational discipline.
