The Director – Compliance and Safety Engineering (Boiler Codes) is responsible for ensuring that all boiler and pressure system operations across the organization fully comply with national and international codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. This role provides strategic oversight on compliance auditing, risk mitigation, and engineering governance related to boiler code adherence, including ASME, NBIC, and jurisdictional standards. The director leads cross-functional initiatives to build a culture of safety, integrity, and regulatory excellence in boiler system design, operation, and maintenance.
Regulatory Strategy & Compliance Leadership:
Develop and implement compliance frameworks and policies aligned with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), NBIC, OSHA, and other applicable local and international regulations.
Serve as the organization's subject matter expert on boiler code interpretation and enforcement.
Code Enforcement & Auditing:
Oversee periodic compliance audits, boiler inspections, and third-party certifications.
Ensure documentation, traceability, and reporting are maintained for code compliance and regulatory reviews.
Design Review & Engineering Governance:
Approve or review engineering designs for new boiler systems, retrofits, and pressure-retaining equipment to ensure code compliance.
Guide engineering teams on welding procedures, material selection, design pressures, relief systems, and NDE requirements.
Incident Investigation & Risk Management:
Lead root cause investigations for code-related incidents, failures, or non-conformances.
Develop mitigation plans and corrective actions to prevent recurrence and ensure system integrity.
Training & Awareness:
Develop internal training programs and workshops to improve awareness of boiler safety codes and compliance practices.
Ensure that engineering, maintenance, and operations teams are updated on code revisions and best practices.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Liaise with regulatory authorities, insurance bodies, third-party inspection agencies, and certification boards.
Provide reports and updates to executive leadership on compliance performance, risks, and regulatory trends.
Policy Development & Document Control:
Maintain up-to-date policies, manuals, and standard operating procedures in line with evolving regulatory requirements.
Ensure proper documentation and storage of boiler design files, certifications, and safety audits.
Boiler Code Compliance:
Ensure full adherence to ASME BPVC, NBIC, local jurisdiction codes, and OSHA regulations in all boiler and pressure system operations.
Engineering Integrity & Design Review:
Oversee safety-critical design validation and mechanical integrity assurance for pressure vessels and boilers.
Risk-Based Safety Programs:
Implement and lead compliance-driven safety management systems, audits, and performance tracking.
Training & Code Awareness:
Foster a culture of engineering and operational compliance through code-specific training and continuous learning.
Incident Response & Corrective Action:
Lead code-related incident investigations and enforce actionable, sustainable resolutions.
Stakeholder Alignment & Documentation:
Build trust with regulatory bodies and ensure transparent, complete documentation for audits and certifications.
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or related field.
Minimum 15 years of experience in boiler systems, pressure equipment, and compliance engineering.
In-depth knowledge of ASME Section I & VIII, NBIC, API 510/570, OSHA, and local pressure system regulations.
Experience in leading compliance audits, investigations, and engineering governance programs.
Certified Boiler Inspector (e.g., National Board Commission) preferred.
Exceptional communication, leadership, and cross-functional coordination skills.
