We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Director – CNC Machining and Fabrication to lead and optimize all aspects of our machining and fabrication operations. This role is responsible for overseeing precision CNC machining, metal fabrication, tooling, and structural assembly processes. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical background, a track record of process improvement, and proven leadership in high-performance manufacturing environments.
Oversee all CNC operations including programming, tool selection, setup, and cycle time optimization.
Ensure the use of precision machining best practices for metals, alloys, and complex geometries.
Lead fabrication activities including cutting, welding, forming, and structural assembly.
Implement robust fabrication processes to ensure product integrity, durability, and compliance with specifications.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies.
Reduce cycle times, increase equipment uptime, and minimize scrap/rework.
Evaluate and implement new machine tools, automation systems, and CAM software.
Oversee machine maintenance strategies including predictive and preventive practices.
Manage and mentor a team of machinists, fabricators, supervisors, and manufacturing engineers.
Build a high-performance culture focused on safety, quality, accountability, and skill development.
Direct daily machining and fabrication operations to ensure on-time delivery and quality output.
Develop and execute short- and long-term strategies for capacity expansion and process standardization.
Oversee programming standards and tool path optimization across multiple CNC platforms (e.g., 3-axis, 5-axis, mill-turn).
Maintain compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO, AS9100, AWS, ASME).
Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure manufacturability and production readiness of new parts.
Manage departmental budgets, capital projects, and cost-control initiatives.
Analyze production data to improve operational performance and support strategic decision-making.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field.
10+ years of experience in CNC machining and metal fabrication, with 5+ years in a leadership role.
In-depth knowledge of CNC machine programming (e.g., G-code, CAM software like Mastercam, Fusion 360, Siemens NX).
Familiarity with advanced materials, precision tolerances, and GD&T practices.
Strong understanding of fabrication techniques including TIG/MIG welding, press brake operation, and structural fit-up.
Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Six Sigma Black Belt, PMP, AWS CWI).
Experience with high-mix/low-volume or high-precision manufacturing in sectors like aerospace, automotive, medical, or defense.
Exposure to digital manufacturing, real-time monitoring, and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
Experience with ERP and MES systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JobBOSS, Epicor).
