Roles & Responsibilities

The Director – Boiler and Heat Generation Systems is responsible for leading the strategy, operations, and lifecycle management of industrial boiler systems and heat generation assets across the organization. This executive role oversees the performance, reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance of thermal systems in power generation or process industries. The director collaborates cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, engineering, and safety teams to drive efficiency, modernization, and sustainable energy use.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:

    • Develop and implement long-term strategies for optimizing boiler operations and thermal energy generation.

    • Drive innovation, digitization, and upgrades in line with energy efficiency goals and decarbonization targets.

  • Operational Oversight:

    • Oversee daily operations, performance KPIs, and availability of all boiler and auxiliary heat generation systems.

    • Ensure system integrity, safe startup/shutdown, and thermal load management.

  • Asset Management:

    • Lead the lifecycle management of boiler systems, including procurement, upgrades, overhauls, and decommissioning.

    • Manage budgets, CAPEX/OPEX planning, and vendor relationships for critical boiler components and services.

  • Technical Governance:

    • Ensure adherence to ASME codes, pressure vessel standards, and local regulatory requirements.

    • Provide technical direction on combustion optimization, feedwater systems, steam management, and emissions control.

  • Reliability & Maintenance Excellence:

    • Oversee condition monitoring, failure analysis, and reliability improvement programs.

    • Lead planning and execution of major shutdowns and turnarounds involving boiler inspection, cleaning, NDT, and refractory work.

  • Team & Talent Development:

    • Build and mentor high-performing engineering and maintenance teams.

    • Develop training programs focused on boiler operations, safety, and regulatory compliance.

  • HSE & Regulatory Compliance:

    • Champion health, safety, and environmental performance, including risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.

    • Ensure compliance with emissions, water quality, and pressure system certifications.

  • Stakeholder Communication:

    • Report regularly to executive leadership on system performance, project updates, risk assessments, and cost metrics.

    • Collaborate with regulatory bodies, utility providers, and third-party consultants.


Key Focus Areas:

  1. Boiler System Optimization:
    Maximize efficiency and reliability of high-pressure and low-pressure boiler systems using data-driven decision-making.

  2. Thermal Energy Strategy:
    Align boiler operations with organizational goals for energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and cost control.

  3. Asset Integrity Management:
    Ensure long-term reliability and safety of boiler pressure parts, piping systems, and heat exchangers.

  4. Regulatory Compliance & Emissions Control:
    Lead adherence to national safety codes, emission regulations, and environmental standards for thermal systems.

  5. Digitalization & Predictive Analytics:
    Integrate IoT, SCADA, and predictive maintenance tools for real-time monitoring and proactive fault prevention.

  6. Leadership & Collaboration:
    Drive cross-functional alignment with operations, engineering, and corporate sustainability teams.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or Power Plant Technology.

  • 15+ years of experience in boiler/heat generation systems, with 5+ years in a senior leadership or director-level role.

  • Deep knowledge of boiler types (e.g., fire-tube, water-tube, HRSG), combustion systems, and steam generation processes.

  • Familiarity with ASME Section I, NBIC, API standards, and pressure vessel codes.

  • Proven track record in managing large-scale capital projects, energy audits, and reliability programs.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
