The Director – BIW Integration and Stamping Operations is responsible for strategic leadership and operational excellence in body-in-white and stamping processes for automotive or industrial vehicle manufacturing. This role oversees production planning, tooling, process integration, quality control, and continuous improvement across stamping lines and BIW assembly areas. The director ensures alignment of cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, maintenance, and supply chain) to deliver world-class body structures with high quality, throughput, and cost-efficiency.
Lead all stamping and BIW operations across multiple facilities or production lines.
Oversee tooling, die maintenance, press shop performance, and robotic BIW integration (welding, joining, hemming, riveting).
Define and implement strategies for throughput optimization, first-time quality (FTQ), and downtime reduction.
Collaborate with product engineering and manufacturing engineering on body design for manufacturability (DFM) and tooling development.
Drive standardization and scalability of BIW and stamping processes for new model launches.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards in all operations.
Lead CAPEX planning, vendor development, and technology upgrades in presses, weld automation, and material handling.
Develop KPIs, dashboards, and performance metrics to monitor plant and line efficiency.
Manage budgets, staffing, and training programs for supervisors, engineers, and technical teams.
Act as the primary escalation point for critical production issues and strategic decisions.
Stamping Operations Excellence:
Lead high-tonnage press lines (mechanical/hydraulic/servo) with automated blank handling.
Optimize die changeover times, material utilization, and press uptime.
Oversee robotic welding (spot, MIG, laser), structural assembly, sealing, and fastening operations.
Ensure accurate fixture calibration and joining integrity for safety-critical parts.
Interface with design, logistics, quality, and industrial engineering to ensure smooth SOPs.
Lead early involvement in new model development and launch readiness.
Implement smart manufacturing solutions, traceability systems, and predictive maintenance tools.
Promote data-driven decision-making and real-time monitoring systems.
Develop technical talent, supervisory bench strength, and safety culture.
Drive cost reduction through scrap reduction, OEE improvements, and supplier optimization.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Production / Automotive Engineering (Master’s preferred).
15+ years of progressive experience in automotive BIW and stamping operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
Deep understanding of press technology, die design, robotic integration, welding/joining methods, and surface finish standards.
Proven track record of delivering plant KPIs in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
Experience with lean manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, and IATF 16949 standards.
Strong leadership, cross-functional coordination, and project execution skills.
