Job Summary:

The Director – Aerospace Systems Safety and Functional Compliance is responsible for establishing and overseeing the safety governance, functional compliance, and risk assurance frameworks for all aerospace systems throughout their lifecycle. This role ensures that all flight-critical systems meet rigorous internal and regulatory standards for functional safety, reliability, and certification across commercial, defense, and space platforms.


Key Focus Areas:

  • Systems Safety Leadership – Define and lead safety engineering practices for flight control, avionics, propulsion, electrical, and environmental systems.

  • Functional Compliance – Ensure adherence to aerospace standards such as ARP4754A, DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160, MIL-STD-882E, and AS9100.

  • Hazard & Risk Management – Oversee hazard analysis, failure mode assessments (FMEA/FMECA), and system safety assessments (SSA) across programs.

  • Certification Strategy & Audits – Coordinate system compliance strategies and engagement with FAA, EASA, and military certification bodies.

  • Cross-Functional Integration – Interface with design, software, quality assurance, program management, and manufacturing teams to embed safety throughout development and operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a unified systems safety and compliance strategy aligned with business and regulatory objectives.

  • Lead system safety reviews, safety case development, and functional hazard assessments for new and existing platforms.

  • Establish compliance metrics, safety KPIs, and functional audit protocols to ensure continuous conformity.

  • Provide executive-level oversight of safety risk reviews, non-compliance resolutions, and airworthiness findings.

  • Mentor engineering teams on system safety engineering methods, human factors, and functional integrity.

  • Represent the company in regulatory, customer, and industry forums on aerospace safety and compliance best practices.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Safety Engineering, or related field.

  • 12–15+ years of experience in aerospace system safety, certification, or compliance roles, with 5+ years in leadership.

  • Proven expertise in ARP4754A, ARP4761, DO-178C, DO-254, ISO 26262 (if applicable), and MIL-STD-882E.

  • Demonstrated experience with safety-critical systems and interaction with global regulatory agencies.

  • Strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent knowledge of aerospace development processes, safety cases, and compliance workflows.

  • Clear communicator with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization and with regulators.
