The Senior Design Engineer – Custom Skids and Tanks leads the design and engineering of complex process skids and stainless-steel tanks used in high-purity and industrial applications such as pharmaceutical, biotech, food and beverage, and chemical manufacturing. This role provides technical leadership in 3D modeling, mechanical analysis, standards compliance, and project execution.
Working closely with cross-functional teams, the Senior Design Engineer ensures that custom-fabricated systems meet client specifications, fabrication standards, and regulatory requirements while optimizing for cost, manufacturability, and cleanability.

Advanced Mechanical Analysis and Engineering Validation
Oversight of Drawing Packages, BOMs, and Documentation
Code Compliance (ASME B31.3, ASME VIII, 3-A, BPE, GMP)
Project Leadership and Cross-Functional Coordination
Lead the design of modular skid systems, storage/mixing tanks, and process piping networks.
Develop and review 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, P&IDs, and layout schematics.
Ensure designs support clean-in-place (CIP), steam-in-place (SIP), and hygienic standards.
Perform and verify engineering calculations for pressure ratings, thermal expansion, supports, nozzle loads, and structural integrity.
Review FEA results, ASME VIII calculations, and seismic/load compliance when applicable.
Oversee sizing and selection of pumps, valves, instruments, and support elements.
Approve BOMs, weld maps, fabrication drawings, and material specifications.
Ensure full documentation packages are delivered per project requirements and client expectations.
Support development of design standards, templates, and best practices.
Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes including ASME B31.3, Section VIII, AWS D1.6, 3-A Sanitary, BPE, and GMP.
Work with QA to provide documentation for inspections, traceability, and validation.
Support internal and client audits, including design justification and traceability.
Serve as the technical point of contact on assigned projects and interface directly with clients.
Coordinate with project managers, shop supervisors, automation teams, and field engineers to ensure seamless execution.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and review their work for technical accuracy and compliance.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
7+ years of experience in mechanical design, including tanks, skids, and sanitary piping.
Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and simulation/FEA tools.
Strong background in fabrication methods, welding processes, and hygienic system design.
Deep knowledge of high-purity systems and process design (pharma, biotech, F&B).
Familiarity with design for manufacturability and lean principles.
Experience managing engineering packages for multi-million-dollar projects.
Excellent written and verbal communication, especially for client interaction.
