The Senior Cooling Tower Supervisor is accountable for the efficient operation, maintenance, and reliability of cooling tower systems in power generation or industrial facilities. This position leads multi-disciplinary teams, develops preventive maintenance strategies, coordinates with engineering and water treatment departments, and ensures full compliance with safety and environmental standards. The role is strategic and operational, with a focus on improving asset performance and life cycle management.
Strategic Maintenance Leadership
Lead, plan, and execute maintenance activities for all cooling tower systems and auxiliaries.
Develop long-term asset care strategies, overhaul plans, and maintenance budgets.
Team & Resource Management
Supervise and mentor teams of technicians, supervisors, and contractors.
Allocate manpower and resources efficiently during routine and emergency works.
Asset Reliability & Troubleshooting
Conduct advanced fault diagnosis and lead root cause analyses for recurring issues (e.g., fan imbalance, fill damage, motor failure).
Collaborate with reliability engineers to implement improvement initiatives.
Performance Optimization
Monitor system KPIs such as approach temperature, cycles of concentration, and fan efficiency.
Propose upgrades or modifications to improve thermal efficiency and water usage.
Coordination with Water Treatment & Engineering
Ensure proper water treatment practices in collaboration with the chemistry team.
Review and validate chemical treatment regimes and corrosion control programs.
Documentation, Compliance & Auditing
Maintain comprehensive maintenance records, SOPs, and risk assessments.
Lead compliance efforts for safety, environment, and quality audits (internal and external).
Outage Planning & Execution
Develop scope, timelines, and contractor management plans for cooling tower outages.
Ensure timely execution with quality control and post-outage review.

Education: Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Experience: 8–12 years in cooling tower maintenance in thermal power, petrochemical, or utility sectors
Certifications (Preferred):
NEBOSH/OSHA certification
Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM)
Working at Heights & Confined Space Entry
Water Chemistry/Legionella Risk Management
In-depth knowledge of cooling tower designs (induced draft, counterflow, crossflow) and materials
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, corrosion, vibration, and water treatment principles
Excellent leadership, project management, and conflict resolution skills
Proficiency in CMMS tools (SAP, Maximo) and engineering software
Strong communication and report-writing capabilities
Field-intensive role requiring site visits, supervision at height, and exposure to chemicals
May involve shift coordination, weekend duties, and long hours during outages
Must comply with all EHS protocols and wear PPE as per site requirements
