The Mid-Level Controls Technician is responsible for the installation, calibration, diagnostics, and maintenance of HVAC control systems, focusing on sensors, actuators, and control wiring. This technician works independently on field installations and troubleshooting assignments, supports commissioning of control systems, and ensures reliable operation of Building Automation Systems (BAS) or Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems in manufacturing or commercial environments.
Install and configure sensors, actuators, thermostats, dampers, valves, and control panels per wiring schematics and control diagrams.
Terminate and test low-voltage wiring to ensure proper signal routing and device function.
Assist in integrating field devices into control systems (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks).
Calibrate and test devices for temperature, humidity, pressure, CO₂, and airflow per manufacturer and site specifications.
Conduct regular preventative maintenance on sensors, actuators, and control boards.
Use diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, signal simulators) to verify sensor outputs and actuator movement.
Diagnose issues in HVAC controls networks and field components independently.
Repair or replace malfunctioning field devices or wiring faults with minimal supervision.
Collaborate with BAS engineers and control system integrators to resolve complex issues.
Maintain detailed logs of installed and calibrated devices, wiring changes, and as-built drawings.
Follow company procedures and electrical codes for safety and compliance.
Assist in documenting control strategies and device commissioning reports.
Independent HVAC controls field work (installation and maintenance)

High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Technical diploma or certification in HVAC, controls, or electronics (preferred)
3–5 years of hands-on experience with HVAC sensors, actuators, and control systems
Proficient in reading control schematics, wiring diagrams, and device datasheets
Solid understanding of control signal types (analog, digital, voltage/current loops)
Competency in using electrical testing and calibration tools
Knowledge of common BAS protocols (BACnet, Modbus) and control logic
Strong problem-solving and communication skills
