The Junior Controls Technician – HVAC Sensors/Actuators assists in the installation, calibration, inspection, and basic troubleshooting of HVAC control systems. This entry-level role supports the functionality of building automation systems (BAS) by working with sensors, actuators, relays, and low-voltage control wiring under the guidance of senior technicians or engineers.
Assist in the installation of HVAC control components including temperature sensors, pressure switches, flow meters, dampers, and actuators.
Support wiring, labeling, and terminations of control panels and field devices under supervision.
Follow control layout drawings, schematics, and basic wiring diagrams.
Perform basic calibration and testing of sensors and actuators to ensure accurate response and signal output.
Use handheld tools and multimeters to verify control signal integrity and device functionality.
Assist in functional testing of BAS equipment and support system commissioning efforts.
Identify and report common issues in control wiring or device failures.
Work with team members to resolve minor sensor or actuator faults under guidance.
Replace faulty components such as RTDs, thermistors, or actuators with minimal supervision.
Adhere to electrical safety practices and company procedures while working on low-voltage systems.
Maintain accurate logs of work performed, including calibration results and wiring changes.
Learn and apply best practices for ESD protection, wiring organization, and sensor placement.
