The Senior Controls Engineer leads the design, development, and strategic implementation of advanced Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Building Management Systems (BMS) to optimize HVAC performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort. This role provides technical leadership across multiple projects, mentors engineering teams, and collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver innovative and reliable HVAC automation solutions at scale.
Lead architecture design and development of complex BAS/BMS solutions integrating HVAC, lighting, security, and energy management systems.
Drive innovation by evaluating emerging automation technologies, IoT integration, and digital twin methodologies to enhance building system intelligence.
Set standards for control logic development, cyber-security best practices, and system interoperability.
Manage multiple large-scale HVAC automation projects from conception through commissioning and handover.
Oversee project timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and stakeholder communications ensuring alignment with corporate goals.
Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure seamless system integration and compliance with industry regulations.
Develop and optimize sophisticated control algorithms for HVAC equipment including advanced sequence control, fault detection, and predictive maintenance.
Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex BAS/BMS issues affecting system performance and reliability.
Ensure high availability, scalability, and cybersecurity of control systems.
Mentor and develop junior and mid-level controls engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Work closely with mechanical, electrical, IT, and facilities teams to align automation strategies with operational objectives and sustainability initiatives.
Represent the organization in industry forums, standards committees, and customer engagements.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (required)
Advanced certifications in BAS/BMS, cybersecurity, or project management (e.g., PMP, CISSP) preferred
7+ years of progressive experience in HVAC controls engineering, building automation, or related fields
Demonstrated leadership in complex BAS/BMS design, implementation, and management
Experience working in large-scale commercial, industrial, or institutional HVAC environments
Expert knowledge of BAS/BMS platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens Desigo, Schneider Electric, or equivalent
Proficiency in programming languages and protocols including ladder logic, BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, and MQTT
Familiarity with SCADA systems, IoT platforms, and cybersecurity frameworks for control systems
