Job Title: Control Valve Technician

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Control Valve Technician to lead complex maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of control valves and actuation systems across critical operations. This role requires deep technical expertise with a wide range of control valve technologies, OEM systems, and field diagnostics. The successful candidate will mentor junior staff, supervise service jobs, ensure quality compliance, and act as the technical authority during turnarounds and shutdowns.

Key Responsibilities:

Advanced Servicing & Diagnostics

  • Independently inspect, dismantle, rebuild, and test control valves (globe, rotary, ball, butterfly) and actuators (pneumatic, electric, electro-pneumatic).

  • Troubleshoot complex issues in valve performance, control loop interactions, and positioner configurations.

  • Perform advanced diagnostics using tools like Fisher’s ValveLink, Emerson AMS, and handheld communicators (e.g., HART, FF).

Field Leadership & Execution

  • Lead on-site valve servicing during planned outages, turnarounds, and emergency shutdowns.

  • Interface with clients, engineers, and QA/QC to ensure scope, quality, and schedule are met.

  • Ensure job-site compliance with safety procedures and supervise junior and mid-level technicians.

Calibration & Compliance

  • Calibrate smart/digital positioners (Fisher DVC, ABB, Siemens, etc.) to achieve optimal control performance.

  • Document all test results and ensure traceability to standards (ISA, API, ASME).

  • Ensure adherence to calibration schedules and regulatory requirements.

Mentorship & Technical Support

  • Provide guidance and on-the-job training for junior and mid-level technicians.

  • Lead toolbox talks, risk assessments, and continuous improvement sessions.

  • Support engineering teams in root cause analysis and performance investigations.

Documentation & Quality Assurance

  • Review and approve service reports, inspection records, and calibration certificates.

  • Recommend upgrades, replacements, or reengineering options based on valve condition assessments.

  • Contribute to internal audits, client inspections, and technical evaluations.

Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Requirements:

  • Technical diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation, or related field.

Experience:

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in control valve servicing across process industries (e.g., oil & gas, chemical, power).

  • Proven experience with OEM systems such as Fisher, Masoneilan, Samson, Flowserve, and Rotork.

Technical Skills:

  • High proficiency in valve diagnostics, calibration, testing, and system integration.

  • Skilled in using control systems software, smart valve diagnostics, and mechanical measurement tools.

  • Capable of interpreting control schematics, P&IDs, datasheets, and technical specifications.

Soft Skills:

  • Leadership and supervisory abilities.

  • Strong communication skills for interfacing with clients and cross-functional teams.

  • Proactive attitude toward safety, precision, and service excellence.

Preferred Certifications:

  • OEM repair certifications (Fisher, Masoneilan, etc.).

  • ISA or control systems training.

  • Safety certifications (OSHA, LOTO, confined space, H2S).
