We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Control Valve Engineer to lead the engineering, reliability, and optimization of control valves and actuation systems across large-scale water and wastewater treatment infrastructure. This role requires deep technical expertise in fluid control systems, multi-mode actuation, and integration with process controls, with responsibility for both capital projects and operational support.
Engineering Leadership & Technical Oversight
Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on control valves with pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric actuation systems.
Provide guidance on valve sizing, flow coefficients (Cv), signal responsiveness, and actuator compatibility.
Lead design reviews, approve valve specifications, and ensure engineering deliverables align with project and process requirements.
System Integration & Reliability Engineering
Drive the integration of control valves with SCADA, DCS, and PLC-based systems.
Develop and execute advanced diagnostics for control valve performance (e.g., response lag, hysteresis, positioner issues).
Contribute to asset management strategies for valve lifecycle planning and predictive maintenance.
Capital Project Support
Lead valve engineering scopes for large-scale upgrades, new treatment facility construction, and retrofits.
Review submittals, coordinate with vendors, and approve factory acceptance tests (FAT) for actuated valve systems.
Ensure systems comply with relevant codes (ANSI/ISA/AWWA), internal standards, and control philosophies.
Mentorship & Team Development
Train and mentor junior engineers and I&C technicians on valve selection, commissioning, and maintenance.
Develop technical SOPs, best practice documents, and engineering standards for valves and actuators.
Facilitate knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaboration between mechanical and controls teams.
Compliance, Documentation & Reporting
Ensure all control valve systems meet regulatory requirements, including safety, reliability, and environmental standards.
Maintain and review control valve documentation, calibration records, and system performance reports.
Conduct root cause analyses (RCFA) on recurring valve failures and recommend corrective actions.
Technical leadership in control valve engineering and actuation systems
Multi-discipline collaboration across process, mechanical, and automation teams
Capital project involvement and system-wide reliability support
Engineering documentation, standards, and mentorship
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering
Master’s degree or professional engineering (PE) license preferred
Experience:
7+ years of progressive experience with control valve systems, preferably in municipal or industrial water treatment settings
In-depth knowledge of valve technologies (globe, butterfly, ball, plug) and actuator types (pneumatic, hydraulic, electric)
Experience leading valve scopes in large capital projects and operational troubleshooting
Skills:
Expertise in valve sizing, signal calibration, actuation tuning, and flow control logic
Proficient in reviewing and developing P&IDs, loop diagrams, and valve/actuator datasheets
Familiarity with CMMS, SCADA integration, and performance diagnostics tools
Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-department coordination skills
