The Control Systems Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day management, maintenance, and performance optimization of plant control systems including DCS, PLC, SCADA, and HMI platforms. The role ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of automated processes while leading a team of control systems engineers and technicians. The supervisor also plays a key role in system upgrades, logic changes, and ensuring compliance with control standards and safety regulations.
Supervise maintenance of DCS, PLC, SCADA, and HMI systems to ensure 24/7 availability.
Lead troubleshooting of control system hardware/software faults, communication issues, and logic failures.
Monitor and verify the performance of control loops and process automation systems.
Manage a team of control system engineers and technicians, assigning tasks and providing daily oversight.
Ensure team members follow safe work practices and control system maintenance procedures.
Provide training and mentoring on automation standards, tools, and programming techniques.
Review and implement changes in control logic, interlocks, alarm settings, and sequencing logic.
Manage HMI screen updates and ensure operator interface is consistent and user-friendly.
Participate in the development and validation of new control strategies.
Plan and support system migrations, hardware/software upgrades, and expansions.
Integrate new equipment into existing control architecture (e.g., new pumps, motors, analyzers).
Coordinate with OEMs, vendors, and project teams during installations and FAT/SAT activities.
Ensure control system documentation (loop diagrams, I/O lists, logic diagrams, backups) is current.
Enforce strict change management protocols for control logic and system configurations.
Maintain system backups and disaster recovery plans.
Ensure all control systems comply with safety standards (e.g., SIL, ESD, SIS) and support safe plant operations.
Implement cybersecurity measures for control networks (firewalls, access control, patch management).
Participate in safety reviews, audits, and HAZOP studies.
Proficiency in control systems (e.g., Siemens, ABB, Allen-Bradley, Yokogawa, Honeywell, Emerson DeltaV).
Knowledge of programming logic for PLCs and DCS (ladder, function block, structured text).
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for automation systems.
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
Ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities under operational pressure.
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical, or Control Systems Engineering.
7–10 years of experience in control systems engineering/maintenance, with 2–3 years in a supervisory role.
Hands-on experience in process industries (e.g., oil & gas, petrochemicals, power, water, or manufacturing).
Certifications in automation platforms or control systems (e.g., Siemens PCS7, DeltaV, Rockwell) are a plus.
Familiarity with ISA standards, IEC 61511 (functional safety), and cybersecurity frameworks (ISA/IEC 62443).
