The Senior Control Systems Supervisor leads the design, maintenance, optimization, and reliability of all plant control systems, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), SCADA, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI). This role provides both strategic oversight and hands-on technical leadership to ensure automation systems operate safely, efficiently, and with high reliability. The supervisor manages control system teams and coordinates with engineering, operations, and vendors.
Develop long-term plans for DCS/PLC/SCADA lifecycle management, upgrades, and standardization.
Drive improvements in control logic, alarms, and interlock systems to enhance process stability.
Analyze control system data and KPIs to identify and implement performance optimizations.
Lead a team of control system engineers, specialists, and technicians across shifts or projects.
Review and approve automation-related MOCs, logic changes, and software configurations.
Serve as the technical authority for troubleshooting, programming, and system design decisions.
Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance activities on control systems and field devices.
Resolve complex system faults, communication issues, and software malfunctions.
Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and implement long-term solutions for recurring system failures.
Support major capital projects and shutdowns involving automation system design, commissioning, or migration.
Manage DCS/PLC upgrades, interface expansions, and integration of new equipment with existing systems.
Liaise with OEMs, integrators, and EPCs during project planning, FAT/SAT, and handover.
Ensure systems comply with functional safety standards (IEC 61511, SIL-rated systems).
Maintain and test Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD), and interlocks.
Coordinate cybersecurity controls, backups, and access management for control networks (ISA/IEC 62443).
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation: logic diagrams, cause & effect charts, backups, loop drawings.
Ensure adherence to internal standards, QA/QC procedures, and regulatory compliance.
Prepare reports for management covering system health, incidents, upgrades, and improvement initiatives.
Expert-level knowledge in DCS, PLC, SCADA, SIS systems (e.g., Siemens, Emerson DeltaV, Yokogawa, Honeywell, ABB, Allen-Bradley).
Strong hands-on skills in logic development, HMI configuration, and network troubleshooting.
In-depth understanding of process control, automation architecture, and industrial communication protocols.
Leadership, mentoring, and team management skills.
Familiarity with industry standards (ISA, IEC), cybersecurity, and functional safety.
Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation, Control Systems, Electronics, or Electrical Engineering.
10–15 years of experience in control systems/automation, with at least 3–5 years in a senior or supervisory role.
Experience in process-intensive industries (oil & gas, refining, petrochemicals, utilities, or power).
Functional Safety (TÜV) and/or Industrial Cybersecurity certifications are a plus.
Proficient in documentation tools, CMMS systems, and engineering software.
