The Mid-Level Control Room Operator is responsible for independently monitoring, controlling, and optimizing plant equipment and processes using Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and SCADA platforms. This role ensures plant efficiency, safety, and compliance by reacting to alarms, conducting real-time system adjustments, and coordinating with field operators and engineering teams.
Process Monitoring & Control – Maintain stable and efficient plant operations by actively monitoring DCS/SCADA systems and adjusting process parameters as needed.
Alarm Management – Respond to alarms promptly, investigate root causes, and initiate corrective actions in coordination with field staff.
Operational Coordination – Interface with maintenance and field operators during routine checks, startups, and shutdowns.
Data Logging & Reporting – Record key process parameters, shift activities, and incidents for operational transparency and handovers.
Compliance & Safety – Ensure operations are carried out in accordance with safety standards, SOPs, and regulatory requirements.
Operate and monitor all major plant systems using DCS/SCADA control interfaces.
Identify deviations from normal operating parameters and implement corrective actions or escalate to supervisors.
Support the safe startup, shutdown, and load changes of equipment such as turbines, boilers, pumps, and transformers.
Coordinate with field staff for equipment status updates and confirm feedback loops and interlocks are functioning correctly.
Maintain comprehensive and accurate shift logbooks and handover notes.
Participate in safety drills and contribute to the preparation of daily reports and incident logs.
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Power Plant Technology, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Mechanical Engineering.
3–6 years of experience in control room operations using DCS/SCADA systems in a power generation, utilities, or heavy process industry.
Familiar with control system architectures and plant process control strategies.
Proficient in using DCS/SCADA platforms (e.g., Siemens T3000, ABB Symphony, Yokogawa, Honeywell, Emerson DeltaV).
Strong situational awareness and decision-making under pressure.
Good coordination, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
Understanding of permit-to-work systems, emergency protocols, and HSE standards.
Ability to work rotating shifts and adapt to varying operational scenarios.
