Roles & Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Senior Construction Safety Officer is responsible for overseeing and leading the implementation of all health and safety policies on large or high-risk construction sites. This role ensures compliance with local and international HSE regulations, conducts high-level audits, and leads the incident investigation and risk management processes. The Senior Safety Officer also provides guidance and mentoring to junior HSE staff.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enforce the site’s overall health and safety plan in coordination with management.

  • Conduct detailed risk assessments, job safety analyses (JSAs), and high-level HSE audits.

  • Lead investigations into serious incidents, accidents, or near-misses and prepare detailed reports.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and client-specific HSE standards (OSHA, ISO 45001, local laws).

  • Oversee emergency preparedness, including drills, evacuation plans, and first aid response systems.

  • Supervise and train junior HSE officers, safety assistants, and site workers on advanced safety practices.

  • Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to review and improve method statements and safety procedures.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of site inspections, incidents, training, and regulatory compliance.

  • Interface with government inspectors, client HSE representatives, and auditors as required.

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and behavioral safety throughout the workforce.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.

  • 6–10 years of HSE experience in construction or infrastructure projects, including at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.

  • Strong understanding of risk management, legal compliance, and incident prevention strategies.

  • Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills.


Certifications (Mandatory/Highly Preferred):

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or higher (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma)

  • ISO 45001:2018 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor Certification

  • OSHA 30-hour certification

  • First Aid, Fire Safety, Working at Heights, and Confined Space Entry Training
