The Junior Compliance Engineer – ABS/USCG HVAC Standards and Certification supports the engineering and documentation activities required to ensure HVAC systems meet applicable maritime regulations and standards. This role involves coordinating with engineering, quality, and certification bodies to ensure product and system designs are in compliance with ABS, USCG, and other international marine HVAC requirements.
Assist in reviewing HVAC system designs, technical drawings, and material selections for compliance with ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), USCG (United States Coast Guard), and IMO/SOLAS requirements.
Support the preparation and submission of certification packages, including technical data sheets, compliance matrices, design calculations, and test reports.
Collaborate with engineering and QA teams to verify that equipment specifications (e.g., ductwork, chillers, AHUs, fans) meet required standards for marine and offshore applications.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of HVAC-related marine codes, including fire safety, ventilation in hazardous areas, and accommodation air quality.
Assist in documentation audits and gap analyses for product approvals and vessel plan reviews.
Support interactions with classification societies (e.g., ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s) and regulatory bodies during inspections or review cycles.
Help track changes in HVAC regulatory frameworks and update internal compliance procedures accordingly.
Participate in internal reviews of HVAC testing results (e.g., vibration, insulation resistance, pressure tests) for certification documentation.
Maintain records of certifications, type approvals, and correspondence logs for traceability and audit readiness.
Marine Regulatory Documentation Support
– Assist in the preparation and management of technical documentation required for ABS and USCG HVAC system approvals.
Standards Interpretation and Design Alignment
– Interpret HVAC standards (e.g., 46 CFR, ABS Rules, IMO guidelines) and ensure engineering design alignment.
Audit Readiness and Compliance Tracking
– Keep documentation organized and accessible for internal/external audits and classification society reviews.
Cross-Functional Coordination
– Work with engineering, QA, and project management teams to ensure compliance requirements are addressed early in the design cycle.

0–2 years of experience in compliance, certification, or engineering support roles (internship/co-op experience acceptable).
Familiarity with marine HVAC systems and components is preferred.
Knowledge of ABS Rules, USCG HVAC standards, or IMO/SOLAS environmental requirements is a plus.
Basic understanding of technical drawings, P&IDs, and specification sheets.
Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word), Adobe, and basic CAD/document management tools.
Exposure to classification society submission processes.
Familiarity with regulatory databases (e.g., ABS Eagle, USCG Marine Information Exchange).
Previous experience or coursework in HVAC systems, marine safety, or regulatory compliance.
Ability to work in cross-functional environments and under schedule constraints.
