We are seeking a dependable and technically proficient Chiller Maintenance Technician with hands-on experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing large-capacity chiller systems in an industrial power plant setting. This mid-level role is ideal for technicians with a solid foundation in HVAC/R systems, particularly chilled water systems, who can independently execute preventive and corrective maintenance tasks to ensure continuous and efficient plant cooling operations.
Chiller Operations & Maintenance
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on water-cooled and air-cooled chillers (centrifugal, screw, or scroll types), cooling towers, condenser/evaporator units, pumps, and related components.
Monitor system operating conditions (pressures, temperatures, flow rates) and make adjustments to maintain peak efficiency.
Replace worn components such as filters, sensors, contactors, and VFD belts, ensuring reliable system performance.
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
Diagnose common electrical, mechanical, or refrigerant-related faults in chillers and associated systems.
Interpret fault codes and alarms from chiller panels, DDC/BMS interfaces, and SCADA systems.
Assist in or lead small-scale repair tasks, including refrigerant leak detection and basic control system recalibration.
System Optimization & Support
Identify inefficiencies or recurring issues and recommend improvements in operating procedures or maintenance schedules.
Collaborate with HVAC engineers or controls technicians to fine-tune system parameters for load changes and energy efficiency.
Support start-up/shutdown procedures, chilled water balancing, and commissioning of new or retrofitted units.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate service logs, refrigerant usage records, and equipment performance reports.
Ensure all work adheres to relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, EPA refrigerant handling guidelines, and ISO protocols).
Participate in internal audits, inspections, and quality assurance reviews.
Safety & Supervision
Follow all plant safety procedures including lockout/tagout, confined space, and chemical handling.
Act as a safety role model for junior technicians and assist in training or guiding less experienced team members.
Escalate complex or critical issues to senior technicians or plant engineers promptly.
Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial chillers
Perform system diagnostics and basic electrical/mechanical repairs
Interface with BMS/SCADA systems for monitoring and troubleshooting
Ensure equipment compliance and maintain refrigerant logs
Support continuous cooling system performance in power plant operations
Education:
Technical Diploma or Certification in HVAC, Refrigeration, Mechanical Technology, or similar discipline
EPA 608 Refrigerant Handling Certification (Type II or Universal) preferred
Experience:
3–5 years of experience in HVAC/R maintenance with hands-on exposure to large commercial or industrial chillers
Experience working in industrial or critical environments (e.g., power plants, manufacturing facilities) is a strong asset
Skills:
Proficient with tools and techniques for chiller system maintenance
Ability to read mechanical and electrical schematics
Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, compressor types, and control systems
Familiarity with BAS/DDC/SCADA platforms and their use in chiller operations
Good problem-solving, documentation, and teamwork skills
