Job Summary:
We are looking for a hands-on and motivated Junior Chiller Maintenance Technician to support the inspection, servicing, and repair of water-cooled and air-cooled chiller systems within a power plant facility. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates with basic HVAC technical training who are eager to gain real-world experience working on large-capacity industrial cooling systems that are critical to plant operations.
Routine Chiller Support & Preventive Maintenance
Assist in the routine inspection and maintenance of centrifugal, screw, or scroll chillers and associated equipment (cooling towers, pumps, condensers, evaporators).
Check refrigerant levels, oil conditions, pressures, temperatures, and water flow rates under supervision.
Support filter replacement, coil cleaning, and leak detection processes.
Assisting in Repairs & Troubleshooting
Support senior technicians in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, or control issues in chillers and cooling systems.
Help with component replacements such as sensors, valves, motors, belts, or compressors under guidance.
Assist in starting, shutting down, and calibrating chillers during testing or seasonal transitions.
Documentation & Reporting
Record maintenance activities, pressure readings, temperature logs, and refrigerant use accurately.
Maintain service tools, safety gear, and equipment in clean and ready condition.
Report abnormal readings or potential faults to senior staff for further evaluation.
Safety & Compliance Support
Follow all safety protocols for chemical handling (e.g., refrigerants, cleaning agents) and PPE usage.
Learn and adhere to industry standards such as ASHRAE, EPA refrigerant handling, and plant-specific guidelines.
Participate in safety training, toolbox talks, and maintenance briefings.
Learning & Development
Gain exposure to various types of chiller technologies and control interfaces (DDC/BMS).
Shadow senior technicians and engineers to understand chilled water system layout and operational logic.
Build foundational skills in HVAC-R systems diagnostics and maintenance.
Assist in routine chiller inspections and maintenance tasks
Support refrigerant monitoring, filter changes, and component checks
Develop knowledge of large-scale industrial cooling systems
Work safely in accordance with power plant and HVAC standards
Learn preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and reporting techniques
Education:
High School Diploma or Technical Certificate in HVAC, Refrigeration, or Mechanical Maintenance
Vocational training in chiller systems or industrial HVAC is a plus
Experience:
0–2 years of experience in HVAC/R service, with exposure to chiller equipment preferred (internship/apprenticeship experience acceptable)
Skills:
Basic understanding of HVAC-R systems and mechanical tools
Familiarity with refrigerant safety and chiller system components
Good observation, listening, and note-taking skills
Physically fit to work in industrial environments, climb ladders, and lift equipment
Eagerness to learn and follow instructions from experienced technicians
