Job Title: Chief Mechanical Officer

Job Summary:

We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Chief Mechanical Officer (CMO) to provide strategic leadership and technical direction for all mechanical engineering, maintenance, integrity, and asset management functions across our oil and gas operations. This executive role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of mechanical assets including rotating equipment, static equipment, valves, piping systems, and pressure vessels. The CMO will lead cross-functional teams, oversee major capital and maintenance projects, and drive innovation in mechanical systems and practices to support operational excellence and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Define and execute the mechanical engineering strategy aligned with organizational goals for safety, performance, and cost-efficiency.

  • Lead the mechanical function across upstream, midstream, and downstream assets, setting high standards for equipment integrity and operational reliability.

  • Represent mechanical engineering leadership at executive and board-level meetings.

Engineering & Technical Oversight

  • Oversee the design, specification, and maintenance of all critical mechanical systems and equipment.

  • Ensure compliance with international codes (API, ASME, ANSI, ISO) and internal standards.

  • Review and approve mechanical engineering deliverables, studies, and technology solutions.

Asset Integrity & Reliability Management

  • Develop and implement asset integrity programs for pressure equipment, piping, rotating machinery, and valves.

  • Ensure robust risk-based inspection (RBI), reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), and root cause failure analysis (RCFA) practices.

  • Monitor mechanical asset health and lead proactive interventions to reduce unplanned downtime.

Project & Operational Support

  • Provide executive oversight of major capital and maintenance projects involving mechanical systems.

  • Ensure mechanical input into FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover.

  • Support operational teams in optimizing asset performance, uptime, and lifecycle cost.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team of mechanical engineers, inspectors, planners, and reliability professionals.

  • Champion technical training, certification, and succession planning within the mechanical discipline.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Ensure mechanical engineering operations comply with regulatory, environmental, and HSE standards.

  • Manage audit processes and oversee incident investigations related to mechanical failures.

  • Lead reviews of technical risks, mechanical failures, and systemic performance issues.


Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s or MBA preferred).

  • Chartered Engineer or Professional Engineer (PE) status is an advantage.

Experience:

  • 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience in the oil and gas sector, including at least 5 years in senior leadership or executive roles.

  • Proven expertise in asset integrity, rotating/static equipment, valves, and high-pressure systems.

Technical & Leadership Competencies:

  • Deep knowledge of mechanical design, operations, maintenance, and integrity management.

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to align mechanical functions with corporate strategy.

  • Effective communicator with board-level presence and influence.

  • Excellent leadership, decision-making, and crisis management skills.


Certifications (Preferred):

  • API 510, API 570, API 653, or related asset integrity certifications.

  • Safety certifications (NEBOSH, OSHA).

  • Project management (PMP) or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
