Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Chief Mechanical Engineer – Fabrication Division to lead mechanical engineering initiatives within our fabrication division. This role oversees design, analysis, prototyping, and production support for fabricated components and systems. The ideal candidate will guide the engineering team, set technical standards, and drive innovation in product development and manufacturing efficiency.

Key Focus Areas:

1. Technical Leadership in Mechanical Engineering

    • Set design and engineering standards for fabricated components, assemblies, and mechanical systems.

    • Oversee complex projects involving sheet metal, welding, structural fabrication, and machining.

2. Product and Process Design for Manufacturability

    • Drive design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) practices.

    • Work closely with the fabrication and production teams to ensure seamless product transitions.

3. Engineering Governance and Quality Assurance

    • Establish engineering review protocols, tolerance analysis procedures, and documentation controls.

    • Ensure compliance with mechanical codes, safety regulations, and quality systems (e.g., ISO, ASME, AWS).

4. Innovation and Fabrication Technology Development

    • Lead the adoption of new fabrication methods, including additive manufacturing, CNC automation, and advanced materials.

    • Guide prototyping, testing, and iteration of mechanical designs.

5. Team Development and Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Mentor mechanical engineers, CAD designers, and analysts.

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in production, procurement, quality, and project management.

Core Responsibilities:

    • Lead mechanical design and development for fabrication projects from concept through production.

    • Approve technical drawings, BOMs, and specifications for fabricated systems and assemblies.

    • Oversee structural and thermal analyses, material selection, and fabrication feasibility assessments.

    • Review and resolve engineering change requests and non-conformance reports.

    • Support cost reduction and productivity improvement initiatives through engineering innovations.

    • Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals.

Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred).

    • 12+ years of mechanical design and fabrication experience, with 5+ years in a senior or chief engineering role.

    • Strong expertise in sheet metal, weldments, machined parts, structural mechanics, and CAD/CAE tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, ANSYS).

    • Proven track record of leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams.

    • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes, geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T), and engineering standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in industries such as heavy equipment, industrial machinery, defense, or transportation systems.

    • Familiarity with ERP systems and PLM tools (e.g., SAP, Teamcenter).

    • Certifications in ASME, AWS, or PMP are a plus.

    • Exposure to lean product development or Six Sigma methodology.
