Roles & Responsibilities

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced Chief Engineer – Instrumentation to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems for major oil and gas facilities. The role demands in-depth technical expertise, project leadership, and coordination across multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations in upstream and downstream environments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the instrumentation engineering team for FEED, EPC, and commissioning phases of oil & gas projects.

  • Develop and review specifications, datasheets, loop diagrams, P&IDs, and I/O lists for field instruments, control valves, and analyzers.

  • Oversee the selection and procurement of instrumentation equipment ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards (API, ISA, IEC, etc.).

  • Interface with clients, vendors, and internal departments to resolve technical issues and ensure alignment.

  • Manage the integration of instrumentation systems with DCS, ESD, PLCs, and SCADA systems.

  • Conduct Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), SIL assessments, and risk reviews related to instrumentation.

  • Ensure instrumentation systems meet functional safety requirements and adhere to cybersecurity protocols.

  • Provide leadership in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and system upgrades.

  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, ensuring knowledge transfer and technical excellence.


Key Focus Areas:

  • Instrumentation engineering design and execution

  • Functional safety & SIL compliance (IEC 61508 / IEC 61511)

  • Oil & Gas process instrumentation (flow, pressure, temperature, level, gas detection)

  • Control systems integration (DCS, ESD, PLCs)

  • International standards (API, ISA, IEC, NEC/ATEX)


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, or Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred)

  • Minimum 15+ years of experience in instrumentation engineering in the oil & gas sector

  • Proven experience in leadership roles for large-scale EPC projects

  • Strong knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards

  • Certification in functional safety (e.g., TÜV Rheinland FS Engineer) is an advantage

  • Excellent communication and team management skills
