The Senior Calibration Technician – Solenoid Valve Timing is responsible for managing and executing complex calibration and testing activities for solenoid-actuated variable valve timing (VVT) systems. This includes optimizing timing maps, supporting advanced troubleshooting, analyzing system response, and guiding junior technicians. The role plays a critical part in validating system performance across diverse engine operating conditions and ensuring alignment with product performance goals and industry standards.
Lead calibration and validation of solenoid valve timing systems across different engine platforms and operating conditions (idle, transient, high-load, start/stop).
Manage and maintain calibration maps for valve timing events (open/close angles, lift, duration, response time) using tools like ETAS INCA, Vector CANape, or similar.
Analyze performance data for solenoid actuators including current profiles, response times, timing accuracy, hysteresis, and repeatability.
Troubleshoot complex timing and actuation issues related to solenoid valves, ECUs, wiring, control logic, and mechanical interfaces.
Work with calibration engineers to refine control strategies for cold start optimization, emissions control, and performance tuning.
Supervise and mentor junior calibration technicians; review their work and provide guidance on test execution and safety.
Maintain detailed logs of calibration results, parameter changes, failure reports, and compliance documentation.
Collaborate with software, hardware, and design teams to support root cause analysis and propose system-level improvements.
Assist in setting up advanced test environments, including engine dynos, hardware-in-the-loop (HiL), and transient rigs.
Advanced Calibration & Optimization:
Fine-tune and validate timing maps to improve engine performance, emissions, and fuel economy.
Ensure repeatable valve actuation under thermal, electrical, and mechanical stress.
