The Junior Calibration Technician supports the setup, testing, and calibration of solenoid-controlled valve timing systems in internal combustion engines or actuation platforms. This role involves hands-on work with test benches, calibration tools, data acquisition systems, and electronic control units (ECUs), under the supervision of senior calibration engineers.
Assist in the setup and testing of solenoid-actuated valve timing systems on engine test benches or subcomponent rigs.
Support the calibration of valve timing parameters such as opening/closing duration, lift, and phasing, under various speed/load conditions.
Work with calibration tools to input and adjust control parameters in the ECU or VVT control module.
Monitor and log test results including timing accuracy, response delays, solenoid current profiles, and actuation repeatability.
Maintain documentation of test setups, calibration data, and performance results in line with traceability requirements.
Perform basic troubleshooting of sensor connections, solenoid wiring, and ECU communication issues.
Assist in component inspections before and after testing (e.g., checking wear, heat marks, or improper seating).
Follow safety protocols, maintain a clean work environment, and comply with lab best practices.
Test Setup & Support:
Prepare and configure solenoid valve timing systems for calibration and testing.
Connect sensors (e.g., cam position, crank position, oil pressure, temperature) and verify signal quality.
Calibration Assistance:
Load calibration maps and assist in tuning timing parameters using tools like ETAS INCA, CANape, or OEM-specific software.
Understand the basics of cam phasing strategies and control logic.
Data Monitoring & Logging:
Support collection and organization of test data related to valve timing accuracy, actuation delay, and system stability.
Help flag deviations or inconsistencies in expected valve timing behavior.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
Identify basic issues with solenoid activation, wiring faults, or sensor misalignment.
Support preventive maintenance of test benches and calibration hardware.
Documentation & Compliance:
Maintain logs, checklists, and calibration records as per internal procedures and audit requirements.
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Automotive / Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent.
0–2 years of experience in calibration/testing (internships or academic projects are acceptable).
Basic understanding of internal combustion engine operations, especially valvetrain and timing systems.
Familiarity with electrical systems, solenoid actuators, and data acquisition basics is preferred.
Exposure to ECU calibration tools (ETAS INCA, Vector CANape) is a plus.
Good attention to detail, willingness to learn, and ability to work under supervision.
