Cable Tray and Sensor Conduit Installer

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Senior Cable Tray and Sensor Conduit Installer leads the installation of cable trays and conduits for instrumentation and control systems in industrial and infrastructure projects. This role involves planning, executing, and supervising field installation activities to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient routing of sensor, control, and power cables.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning and Execution Oversight:
Interpret cable tray/conduit layouts, coordinate installation sequencing, and lead installation activities based on project schedules.

  • Supervision of Installation Crew:
Manage and guide a team of installers and helpers in the correct execution of cable tray and conduit work, ensuring quality and adherence to specifications.

  • Advanced Installation Work:
Execute complex conduit runs (including offsets, saddles, and sweeps), fabricate customized supports, and perform precision installations in tight or elevated spaces.

  • Technical Coordination:
Liaise with engineering teams, other trade supervisors (mechanical, HVAC, civil), and QA/QC to resolve routing conflicts and align installation plans.

  • Compliance and Inspection:
Ensure installation complies with NEC, IEC, or local electrical codes, project specifications, and HSE policies; support internal and third-party inspections.

  • Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain red-line drawings, material usage records, and installation logs; report progress and field deviations to site management.

  • Training and Mentoring:
Train junior and mid-level installers on installation techniques, safety protocols, and reading of technical drawings.

  • Safety Leadership:
Champion site safety during all installation activities, conduct risk assessments, and lead toolbox talks when required.

Focus Areas:

  1. Complex Cable Tray Systems:
Install and supervise routing of multi-tier, horizontal/vertical tray systems across structural and process areas with proper load and fill considerations.

  2. Sensor Conduit Optimization:
Ensure optimal routing of sensor conduits to minimize signal loss and interference while maximizing maintainability and safety.

  3. Segregation and Code Compliance:
Enforce strict segregation of power, control, and instrumentation cables as per standards; ensure correct cable separation and conduit fill.

  4. Installation Quality and Assurance:
Ensure use of certified tools, appropriate fasteners, and secure mounting for durable and vibration-resistant installation in industrial environments.

  5. Interface with QA/QC and Commissioning:
Collaborate with quality and commissioning teams to validate cable tray and conduit installations before cable pulling or loop checking.

Qualifications:

  • ITI, Diploma, or equivalent technical qualification in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in industrial cable tray and conduit installation.

  • Strong proficiency in reading electrical/conduit layout drawings, P&IDs, and cable schedules.

  • Experience with installation in sectors like oil & gas, water treatment, data centers, or process industries preferred.

  • Excellent leadership, planning, and communication skills.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IEC) and safety standards.
