We are seeking an expert and highly skilled Senior CNC Operator – Structural Components to lead complex machining operations for structural fabricated parts using CNC equipment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in CNC setup, operation, program adjustments, and quality assurance for large metal components. This role also includes mentoring junior operators, optimizing machining parameters, and ensuring process compliance and operational excellence.
Independently handle complete setup and operation of CNC machines (mill, lathe, drilling, plasma) for large or complex structural parts.
Load, verify, and modify CNC programs (G-code) as required.
Execute dry runs, set tooling offsets, and ensure proper fixture alignment.
Interpret advanced fabrication and machining drawings, including GD&T, weld prep details, and critical fit interfaces.
Ensure conformance to tight tolerances and special machining requirements for structural assemblies.
Perform comprehensive dimensional inspections using high-precision instruments (CMM, height gauges, bore gauges, etc.).
Ensure compliance with internal quality standards and client specifications.
Drive root cause analysis for non-conformities and implement corrective actions.
Optimize machining parameters to reduce cycle time and improve tool life.
Troubleshoot complex machining issues including tool wear, vibration, and misalignment.
Collaborate with programmers and engineers for process improvements and fixture design suggestions.
Train and mentor junior CNC operators on machine handling, safety, and quality practices.
Lead small teams in multi-shift operations or pilot production runs.
Support implementation of lean manufacturing principles and 5S workplace organization.
Ensure preventive maintenance of machines is performed regularly.
Maintain detailed production records including part logs, tool history, and deviation reports.
Support audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die, or Machining Technology.
6+ years of hands-on experience in CNC machining of structural or large fabricated components.
Expertise in operating CNC machines with Fanuc, Siemens, or Heidenhain controls.
Proficient in reading advanced fabrication drawings, 3D models, and GD&T.
Strong understanding of tool selection, cutting parameters, and fixturing for large/heavy parts.
Leadership skills and experience in training or supervising a team of operators.
