The Junior CNC/Tooling Supervisor supports the setup, operation, and oversight of CNC machining and tooling operations on the production floor. This entry-level supervisory role is responsible for coordinating with machine operators and technicians, ensuring proper tooling usage, and maintaining quality and productivity in line with operational standards. The role provides hands-on support in troubleshooting, changeovers, and monitoring tool life and condition.
Daily CNC Operations Support:
Assist in managing daily CNC machine shop activities including tool setup and machine monitoring.
Support efficient changeovers and maintain schedule adherence.
Tooling Preparation & Monitoring:
Ensure correct tooling and inserts are prepared and available for production.
Monitor tool wear and replace tools as needed to maintain part quality.
Team Coordination:
Provide guidance to CNC machine operators and technicians on tool selection, setup, and machining parameters.
Help train new operators on tooling best practices and machine operation.
Quality & Process Checks:
Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.
Report dimensional issues, surface finish problems, or tooling-related nonconformities.
Preventive Maintenance & Safety:
Ensure basic preventive maintenance checks are followed (lubrication, coolant levels, cleaning).
Support safe machine and tooling practices on the shop floor.
Documentation & Inventory:
Assist in maintaining tool crib records, tool usage logs, and tool calibration schedules.
Help track tool inventory and notify procurement for restocking.

Basic understanding of CNC machine operations (lathe, milling, turning centers, VMC).
Familiar with tool types (end mills, drills, inserts), holders, and presetting concepts.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and machining blueprints.
Good communication and interpersonal skills to work with operators and senior supervisors.
Ability to coordinate small teams and support training and development.
Basic metrology skills and familiarity with gauges and inspection instruments.
Understanding of tolerances, finishes, and common machining defects.
Recordkeeping of tool use and condition.
Time management to ensure shift targets are met efficiently.
Education:
ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die Making, or Machining Technology
Experience:
1–3 years of experience in CNC machine operations or tool room environment
Exposure to modern CNC machines and cutting tool systems is preferred
