The Senior CAD Technician – Marine Mechanical Drafting is responsible for leading the development and coordination of detailed mechanical system drawings and 3D models for marine vessels and offshore platforms. This role requires advanced technical drafting skills, deep understanding of shipboard mechanical systems, and the ability to mentor junior CAD staff while ensuring quality and compliance with industry and client standards.
The technician plays a key role in cross-disciplinary collaboration and supports engineers through all design phases—from concept to fabrication and commissioning.
Lead the preparation of complex 2D and 3D CAD drawings for mechanical systems including propulsion, piping, HVAC, fuel systems, and auxiliary equipment.
Oversee the creation and quality review of fabrication drawings, isometrics, spool sheets, and general arrangement layouts.
Coordinate mechanical design activities with structural, electrical, and controls teams to ensure integration accuracy and avoid spatial conflicts.
Interpret engineering inputs and translate them into production-ready CAD deliverables.
Ensure designs meet classification society standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s) and relevant codes (e.g., IMO, USCG, SOLAS).
Conduct clash detection and participate in design reviews using tools like Navisworks or AVEVA Review.
Manage drawing control processes, revision history, and compliance with CAD standards.
Provide mentorship and technical support to junior and mid-level CAD technicians.
Support field teams during installation and commissioning with as-built documentation and technical clarifications.
