The Junior CAD Technician – Marine Mechanical Drafting is responsible for supporting the development of detailed mechanical drawings and 3D models for marine vessels and offshore platforms. Working under the guidance of senior designers and engineers, the technician creates accurate technical documentation for systems such as piping, HVAC, propulsion, and auxiliary equipment, in line with project specifications and maritime standards.
This entry-level position is ideal for individuals who have a foundation in CAD software and are looking to gain experience in the marine engineering field.
Produce 2D and 3D mechanical drawings for shipboard systems, including piping layouts, mechanical assemblies, HVAC ducts, and equipment foundations.
Assist in developing general arrangement drawings, isometric views, and fabrication details.
Collaborate with engineers and senior designers to ensure drawings meet functional and dimensional requirements.
Incorporate redlines and revisions based on engineer or client feedback.
Maintain drawing databases and follow drawing control and revision standards.
Assist in preparing material take-offs and bills of materials (BOMs) from drawings.
Ensure that all designs comply with applicable classification rules and company standards.
Participate in design reviews and quality checks with the drafting and engineering team.
Marine Mechanical Drafting
Support creation of piping, HVAC, machinery layout, and auxiliary system drawings.
CAD Modeling and Detailing
Generate accurate, detailed 2D and 3D CAD models under supervision.
Drawing Management & Standards
Follow version control, layer management, and drafting conventions.
Engineering Collaboration
Work closely with mechanical engineers to translate concepts into build-ready documents.
Diploma or associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Marine Engineering, or CAD Design.
0–2 years of experience in CAD drafting; internship or coursework in marine/mechanical fields preferred.
Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, ShipConstructor, Inventor, or AVEVA) is an advantage.
Basic understanding of mechanical systems used in ships and offshore platforms.
Good attention to detail and ability to follow established drafting standards.
Willingness to learn and adapt to marine-specific design tools and practices.
Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Familiarity with maritime terminology or prior exposure to marine engineering projects.
Knowledge of classification society requirements (e.g., ABS, DNV) is a plus.
Interest in progressing to more advanced roles in marine design or engineering.
